Curriculum Vitae
Dr. Gerhard Michael Iglhaut (Dentist & Oral Surgeon)
After studying dentistry at the Justus Liebig University of Gieen from 1977
to 1982, Dr. Iglhaut remained there to work for three years as an academic
assistant at the Department of Oral Surgery chaired by Prof. H. Kirschner,
obtaining additional qualification as an oral surgeon during this time. Later
on, he focused his activities on implantology (DGI) and became a specialist
in periodontics (EDA certification). Since 1987, he has been working as a
private practitioner in Memmingen (Germany).
Dr. Iglhaut is a regular speaker, both nationally and internationally, on
topics like implantology, periodontology, plastic periodontal surgery and
periodontal microsurgery. He is a member of the APW/DGI teaching staff
for curriculum implantology, aesthetic dentistry and restorative dentistry,
as well as of numerous dental organizations, among them the American
Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, the American Academy of Restorative
Dentistry, the American Academy of Periodontology, the European Academy
of Osseointegration, the German Society for Implantology (DGI), the
German Society for Periodontology (DGP) and the New Group. In 2004,
he was elected a member of the committee of the German Society for
Implantology (in charge of continuing education).
Since 2005, he has been assistant professor at the Steinbeis University of
Berlin, responsible in collaboration with DGI for the Master of Science
in Implantology course of studies. Since 2009, Dr. Iglhaut has also been a
lecturer at the Gttingen University Hospital for Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery.

3D Implant Positioning Set

An aesthetically perfect restoration with implants that look as identical as

possible to adjacent teeth is considered an essential measure of success in modern
implantology.
Optimal positioning of the implant plays a crucial role in implantology, due to
the fact that it is an important parameter for hard- and soft-tissue preservation.
The 3D implant positioning system developed by Dr. Iglhaut compatible with
all commonly used implant systems enables perfect and safe three-dimensional
implant positioning, making sure that the correct distance between the teeth
and the implant(s) is exactly maintained.

Spreader 1.6 (Fig. 1) with sleeve

Spreader 1.62.2 (Fig. 2)

Selection of the optimal implant diameter by inserting different spacers

into the gap
Measuring the vertical dimension of the implant
Final positioning: insertion of the spreader (Fig. 1) into the central borehole
and alignment of the prosthetic axis
Creation of a pilot hole with the spreader, applying gentle hammer blows
For further preparation of the implant bed, the spreader of Fig. 2 and
then the spreader of Fig. 3 are successively used
The prepared osseous bed can now be finalized by bone condensation,
using instruments with increasing diameters
Following insertion of the implant, its final position is checked for correctness using a stepped cylindrical sleeve

The system can just as easily be used for interdental spaces and
free-end gaps.

Instrument Set 2

Sinus Lift Set

Implants should only be inserted if the supporting bone is strong enough

to provide sufficient hold.
If the bone volume is too low, there is a risk of the implant projecting into
the maxillary sinus after insertion.
The sinus lift augmentation method allows you to increase the thickness of
the bone layer of the sinal floor by elevating the mucosa of the maxillary sinus.

Example: Fig. 0
2.2 < 2.7 mm

Example: Fig. 5
4.7 < 5.4 mm

Dilator: Fig. 2

This standard procedure for vertical bone reconstruction of the maxilla ensures
sufficient hold for implants to be inserted into the jawbone. Given the dual
objective of preserving and reshaping local bone (predominantly in the posterior
region of the maxilla), osteotomes play an important role in sinus lift procedures.
As osteotomes of increasing diameters are used to shape the implant bed,
their diameters are matched to each other in such a way that the tip of the
following instrument exactly fits the bone cavity created with the previous
instrument.
By slightly tapping with the hammer, the alveolar bone is displaced axially
and laterally and thus condensed by the stamp-like working end of the
instrument.
The scaling enables reliable depth measurement and fully complies with
common implant lengths.

Micro Flap Management Set

Secure and lasting wound closure is an essential factor for successful interventions in augmentation surgery.
The success of the therapy greatly depends on the design and mobilization
of the flap used for covering the wound, and no less important is precise
microsurgical wound edge adaptation to ensure the best possible blood
supply.
Coming with a whole range of high-quality microinstruments, the micro flap
management set provides everything needed for precise and successful soft
tissue management.

Tunneling Technique Set

Gingival recession is a condition frequently observed on implants in particular.

If implants in the aesthetic zone are affected, this quite often requires corrective
soft tissue surgery in order to restore the success of the implant therapy from
an aesthetic point of view.
The tunneling technique is a surgical option that enables you to thicken
the very thin gingival soft tissue. In addition, connective tissue grafts can
be harvested from the palate to transfer them into the prepared tunnel for
complete coverage of the recession and simultaneous thickening of the
gingival tissue.
KLS Martin offers an instrument set specially adapted to the requirements
of this procedure.

Instrument Set 5

Minimized Set for

Surgical Crown Extension

Surgical crown extension can be meaningful or necessary for various reasons.

Medical indications include caries extending deeply underneath the gingiva,
insufficient hold of existing crowns and fractures.
If too much gingiva is visible (gummy smile) and the dental crown appears
to be too short as a result, surgical crown lengthening may be indicated for
aesthetic reasons. The targeted, cosmetic-surgical intervention can indeed
do a lot to restore naturalness and harmony to the smile.
The minimized set for surgical crown extension offers users a straightforward
arrangement of instruments that are simply ideal for optimally detaching the
marginal gingiva from the tooth across its entire width and carefully remove
the exposed alveolar bone.
