that shape the way we interpret the things around us.
2. PARABLE an allegorical or representative tale where characters are meant to represent something else,
such as a group of people or a principle.
3. PLOT is the manner in which the story is arranged.
4. CONFLICT central to the plotting
5. TURNING POINT indicates resolution of the conflict.
6. WETSERN CANON a list of literary texts deemed by scholars and writers as classical because their
theme, contribution to literary tradition or both.

9. WHITE LOVE - Cultural affection for white Westerners, especially Americans.

11. ALLUSIONS - a figure of speech that makes historical, mythological and fictional figures as the reference
of different texts.
12. SYNECDOCHE is a figure of speech in which a part stands for the whole.
Example: Can I have your hand for marriage?
13. METONYMY a figure of speech consist of using a name to substitute another name.
Example: They are here whom the Empire had divested of their cinnamons and diamonds.
14. METAPHOR directly compares without connective words.
Example : Under My Invisible Umbrella.
15. LIMINALITY - it is a metaphysical state of being, neither here nor there.
16. COSMOPOLITANISM a mindset that is characterized by a particular kind of openness to the world and
its varied and different cultures.
17. TONE an important aspect in writing as it reflects the writers attitude towards his/her subject matter.
18. NIHILISM - the attitudes that finds meaninglessness in things, societal structures, rituals/habits, and moral
codes.
19. ENNUI a lethargic disposition or feeling of aimlessness, dissatisfaction, or listlessness emerging from a
lack of zest or excitement.
20. STRUCTURE an ordered way of developing ones ideas.
21. REFRACTION - according to Mikhail Bakhtin, literature does not directly mirror reality but refracts it.
22. SYMBOL denotes something larger than just the thing it names, and is usually developed through culture.
23. IRONY a figure of speech which the root sense of dissembling or hiding is actually the case.
24. SOCIAL the sphere of human interaction which affects the imagination of the writer as he/she is also a
social being.
25. CONTEXT a part of socialization of the writer which makes the form of a text richer.
26. COLONIALISM is control exerted by one country over other countries and people.
27. REALISM is a tradition of writing that aims to represent reality as faithfully as possible by avoiding
exaggeration, unbelievable details, romanticization, or appeal to emotions.
28. MAGIC REALISM is a tradition of writing that originated in Latin America and goes against Europeaninfluenced nations of reality or realism by portraying events and characters that are
unbelievable or larger than life.
29. AWIT in Tagalog, song, which soon after became known for its narrative verse structure of quatrains
(four lines) composed of dodecasyllabic (12) lines, with a caesura or line break on the sixth
syllable, monorhyme, as popularized by Francisco Balagtas in Florante at Laura.
