Dear Selection Committee:
I am writing a letter of recommendation for Ms. Constance Barnes, who is applying for the Education
Director position in your Tribal organization. I am extremely honored to write this letter of
recommendation for Ms. Barnes. It has been a privilege to work with her, particularly with the Nevada
Department of Educations Indian Education Programs.
I am impressed with Constances work with American Indian students, especially in how she understands
the challenges youth are facing today. In addition to the work she does with the youth, she applies the
same professionalism when networking with educators throughout the state to improve the programs. One
of Constances greatest attributes is that she enjoys networking with others and that she would rather
work in a team environment, rather than working alone.
She has collaborated with several education entities throughout the state. Particularly, I am familiar with
her collaborating with the Department of Education to be one of the founders of the Higher Education
Workshop for American Indian students. Earlier this month we hosted our fourth annual workshop, held
at the University of Nevada, Reno. Her ability to assist in designing this statewide workshop is a clear
indication that she is capable of using what she learns to design researched based American Indian
Education Programs. She believes in collecting and analyzing data to rely on outcomes for programs.
In addition to the Higher Education workshops, Constance has assisted with planning the annual Indian
Education Summit, as well as being on the Nevada Department of Education Indian Education task force
to assist in the Every Student Succeed Act (ESSA) Tribal Consultation plan. She is a part of the Indian
Education Advisory Committee and has been active with subcommittees to improve the educational needs
for American Indian students.
As indicated throughout this letter of recommendation, it has been a pleasure to work with Ms. Barnes
and I look forward to working with her on future activities. If you have any questions, please do not
hesitate to contact me at (775) 687-9143, or fromero@doe.nv.gov.

Sincerely,
