Dear Internship Readiness Review Panel,

It is my pleasure and the honor to have Lisa Hatley in the program and to be the professor in several of the
classes she has taken on her path to becoming a professional interpreter. I have been Lisas professor for several
semesters and observed her growth both as a person and as a future interpreter. Through the course of the
program, I have had the opportunity to observe her actual work in interpreting, her ability to handle stress, and
her ability in collaborating with her peers.
Lisa is a dedicated interpreter in training, who has tirelessly demonstrated a determination in succeeding in this
career regardless of the obstacles or challenges that non-traditional students face with all of the demands of
living while trying to be a consummate student.
From the onset of her start in the program, her ability to collaborate with peers and skills as an interpreter have
grown exponentially. She has a very absorbent mind and teachable demeanor, constantly looking for and
working on the feedback given.
Interpreters must exhibit a myriad of traits including interpreting skills, knowledge, and soft skills to be able to
work with agencies, teams, and consumers. Lisa has an abundance of all of these characteristics. Of special note
are her soft skills, clearly demonstrated in her optimism and the constant encouragement to her peers. Other
characteristics that she has shown consistent action in are a desire to learn beyond the scope of the interpreter
training program through attending conferences and workshops not required for classwork, being a resource for
her peers, determination to succeed, and a faithfulness in performing what is expected of her.
I confidently recommend Lisa Hatley for internship, as such an opportunity will undoubtedly create a competent
interpreter for our field. There is no doubt that she will rise to the pressures of interpreting and become a
valuable addition to any interpreting team. Please, do not hesitate to call or email me using the below
information with any further questions or clarifications.
Respectfully,

Lynne Wiesman, Professor
