Graphic Organizer: Concept Map

Directions: Complete this concept map regarding the methods we used to solve quadratic eqautions. You will use the following webbased resources and/or your class notes to fill in the bubbles with appropriate answers:

Concept maps are a fantastic way to review what weve learned thus far and will act as valuable supplementary material when you are
studying for exams. The first five levels of the concept map consists of the five strategies that we learned to use when solving
quadratic equations. You will then explore the above websites and write three facts that you found interesting or useful for each
method. No images or video clips are required as part of evidence, but you may certainly include them if you wish. You can work with
one other student on this assignment; however, each of you must turn in your own separate concept map. The due date for this
assignment is two days. Have fun! (A sample and rubric are provided in the next few pages.)

Solving Quadratic Equations

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSA.REI.B.4.B

The Zero Factor Property states

that 0 x anything is always 0.

The original equation

must be set equal to 0.

This is the go-to

approach to apply
when solving quadratic
equations because it
always works.

Quadratic
Formula

The formula can be

derived by using the
method of completing
the square.

Completing
the Square

If there isnt a perfect

square, we can
create one through
algebraic operations.

Square
Roots

is a sign
that
represents
both the
positive
and
negative.

Key strategy
is to prepare
the equation
to be able to
square root.

Any kind of
quadratic equation
can be solved with
this method.

Can combine with other

strategies to solve various
problems.
