Buffy the vampire slayer an American series created by Joss Whedon, is based on a vampire slayers theme. The slayers are meant to battle out the vampire demons and other evils of darkness and slay them. Aesthetic qualities The director symbolizes the Gentlemen who act as vampires to be evil from the first interaction of the scenes. The attributes he uses are pale wrinkled faces, red and bloody eyes, black stained teeth and creepy hand movements. When the script begins there is a diegetic sound from a girl who sings a cryptic rhyme about people who need seven items not mentioning what is to be taken by unknown people. This is a preparation of the audience to what is about to happen in the episode where their voices will be taken from them. There are none diegetic sounds that run in the background when the man in black suit opens the wooden small box to open and take away the voices of the people of the town. This is meant to scare the viewers as they watch the episode. mise en scne is observed in the scene where Buffy is daydreaming in class when she observes a little girl who is holding a small wooden box that the gentlemen use to steal away the peoples voices. The camera focuses on the little girl on the empty hall way in order for the audience to concentrate on the singing girl in the scene. The hand movements that the Gentleman makes when opening the wooden box are an example of mise en scne that does not contribute to the horror aesthetic. The diegetic sound made by vampire as he empties blood from a mug taken from the refrigerator also does not contribute to the horror aesthetic. The non-diegetic sound made when a discovery is made by the teacher that
