Reporting to the Director, Clinical and Family Services, the Manager, Indigenous
Engagement contributes to excellence in public health practice by leading the
development and implementation of an Indigenous Engagement Strategy for the
SDHU.
The Manager has a deep understanding of Indigenous culture and respectfully
engages with key stakeholders, assesses needs and gaps, conducts knowledge
exchange, and engages in evaluation and research. The Manager is responsible for
the supervision of assigned personnel. As a member of the SDHU management
team, the Manager promotes cooperative planning and decision-making with other
teams and divisions.
The Managers work is guided by internal and external advisory and steering
structures and is supported by SDHU program, research, health equity, and
communications leaders.

Qualifications

Strong understanding of Indigenous issues, cultures as well as local


Indigenous community groups and agencies.

Clear understanding of current issues affecting Indigenous communities.

Strong awareness of Health Canadas policies and Indigenous health.

Familiarity with the structure and history of Indigenous communities within


Ontario.

Ability to assess needs of Indigenous communities and stakeholders and


develop/implement new or modified services and programs with available
resources.

Ability to communicate and relate to Indigenous people and their


communities, with sensitivity to cultural and Tribal/Nation differences.

Extensive project management skills and knowledge of project management


methods, procedures and principles.

Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to prepare business cases and project charters, complete risk analysis,
measure performance, make decisions about staffing, prepare and monitor
budgets, prepare reports and correspondence.

Excellent leadership, supervision, interpersonal, mediation, and


administrative skills.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety


of internal and external contacts and to provide advice and assistance on
matters related to the work.

Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently.

Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and the ability to


foster and work within a multi-disciplinary team environment.

Demonstrated conflict resolution, facilitation and negotiating skills.

Excellent change management skills.

Fluency in Ojibwe is an asset.

Proficiency in both official languages is an asset.

Requirements

Successful completion of university baccalaureate degree at minimum,


graduate degree preferred, in a relevant/related field (e.g. Indigenous
studies, health policy, public health, etc.).

Member in good standing with the appropriate professional college where


applicable in accordance with the Health Protection & Promotion Act.

Minimum of five (5) years experience working with Indigenous communities


combined with progressive supervisory and administrative responsibilities
and research experience.

Satisfactory criminal reference check.

Current Ontario drivers licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
