Objective: Students will be able to come up with 2 sentences that contain verbs. They will be able to correctly name
the verbs in the sentences. They will be able to do this with 75% accuracy.
Assessment: After the lesson I will pull the children aside one by one and ask them to give me a sentence that
contains a verb. Once they come up with a sentence I will ask them to name the verb in that sentence. I will then ask
them to give me another sentence and tell me the verb in that sentence. They will receive 1 point for giving me a
sentence with a verb in it and another for naming the verb for a total of 4 points.

Explain that a verb is an action. Like the StoryBots were jumping on the bed the action was they were
jumping. Talk about the alphafriends and how we do an action with each of the letters. A verb is an
action. A verb is something that we do.
Check for understanding: Ask the children to give examples of verbs.

Guided practice: Play charades with the students. I will have actions on a piece of paper and then I will
whisper to them the actions for their peers to guess.
Closure/Summary: Ask the students what they learned about verbs today.

Independent practice: Ask the students individually to give a sentence with a verb and name the verb.
Ask them to do this two times.
