Abstract
This report is about Automated Teller Machine (ATMs) uses with respect to MayBank.
The group has researched on Functionality about Automated Teller Machine, Advantages
and Disadvantages and How the System above has impacted the customers. On the other
hand, the group has also researched and discussed similarities and differences of
Automated Teller Machine (ATMs) based on the three topics Security Issues; Ethical and
Legal Issues and lastly Human Computer Interface. This report has also stated that we as
a group should provide suggestions and solutions on how to improve the system, and how
computing and IT in the workplace can be carted to improve MayBank services. The
report has also talked about the improvement in terms of security matters to safeguard
customers information from identity theft or stolen cards and pins. Lastly, the group as a
whole has brainstorm ideas and drew out their own conclusion regarding the whole
report.
CURRENT SCENARIO
MayBank is a Malaysian owned bank and is also a leading financial provider which
carters to the needs of consumers, investors, businesses, non-profit business and large
corporations. The group which has internationally grown, has the largest network among
Malaysian banks of over 2,100 branches and offices in 17 countries with an employment
of 42,000 Maybankers and serving over 21 million customers. (Careers in Asia, 2013).
This report will focus mainly on Automated Teller Machine with respect to Maybank. An
Automated Teller Machine or ATMs, is a computerized telecommunications machine that
provides customers with access to financial services in terms of banking from a public
place without actually visiting the bank. ATM machine is used when a customer inserts a
plastic ATM card into the specified slot, with a chip which contains information about the
card number and security information. The machine then verifies the card and gives a
command in which the customer has to enter the PIN (Personal Identification Number) in
order to confirm or authenticate the information. Once the PIN entered is correct, a list of
financial options will be listed. Customers can access their bank account in order to

withdraw or even check their account balances or even make bill payments and even
some ATM machines can be used for cell phone top-ups.
Functionality:
Nowadays the functionality of Maybank ATMs gives facility to its customers to do all
their transaction from any part of Malaysia and it has proven to meet our 24 hour banking
needs.
The customers needs only an access card to do all services. Besides that, there are three
other elements of Information Technology that made Maybank a power full bank. The
goal of these elements are to make Maybank easier, faster and more reliable to banks
with. These elements are: SECUTIRY ISSUES, HUMAN ASPECT and INTERNET
WWW.

Access card?
Nowadays all ATMs use an access card thereby with a number that is usually determined
by you, which is referred to as a pin number. The ATM access card can be made of a
plastic (pvc, polyester, or some other materiel). An access card is different with a check
card many people confuse it. A check card is a card given to a customers by a bank and a
credit card company. These types of cards are sometimes called debit cards. ATM access
cards can also generally used at an ATM machine or certain grocery stores, and a check
card can be used virtually anywhere that credit cards are accepted .

A magnetic strip is the black or brown stripe that you can see on your credit card,
sometime it can be on the back of airline ticket or transit card. It is made up of tiny
magnetic particles in a resin.
Host computer
A host computer is a controlling computer connected to other computers or terminals to
which it provides data or computing services via a network. The host computer is can be
similar to a server in a client-services.
Beside all this details this diagram is showing how the ATMs are reliable to the Host
Computer and the Bank computer.
An ATM is simply a data terminal with two input and four output devices. Like any other
data terminal, the ATM has to connect to, and communicate through, a host processor.
The host processor is analogous to an internet service provider (ISP) in that it is the
gateway through which all the various ATM networks become available to the cardholder
(the person waiting the cash).

Account transfer is a popular function for those who carefully manage the funds in
more than one account, and can be used to move funds from one account (for
example, a checking account) to another (like a savings account).
Making of purchase
Customers owning Standard Chartered ATM cards can purchase commodities or pay
for services by swiping their debit cards. However in Tanzania, this is limited to some
shops and other places such as hospitals, restaurants and hotels which offer this
service.
Money transfer
Standard Chartered customers can transfer money into other accounts which are retained
within the bank through the use of ATM machines. For instance a customer can transfer
money from a checking account to savings account.
Bill payment
Nowadays people are using online bill payment because it allowing users to
electronically send and receive bill and payment information by using convenient,
cost effective and secure state-of-the-art technology.
