Purpose
Use this procedure to change a cost element.
Trigger
Perform this procedure when a cost element requires changing.
Prerequisites
None.
Menu Path
Use the following menu path to begin this transaction:

Select Accounting Controlling Cost Element Accounting Master data Cost

Element Individual Processing Change to go to the Change Cost Element: Initial
screen.

Additional Information

When defining cost elements, you must distinguish between primary cost elements and
secondary cost elements.

Primary cost elements are revenue/cost items in the chart of accounts with corresponding
general ledger (G/L) accounts in Financial Accounting (FI).

Secondary cost elements are used for internal cost transfers within cost controlling (CO)
only.
Use this transaction for changing both primary and secondary cost elements.

Enter the number of the cost element you wish to display.
If you know the number range for the cost element
you wish to create you can obtain a matchcode list by
clicking on
. If you wanted to view , for example,
all the travel-related cost elements you would enter
'55*' in the dialogue box.

Change the name of the cost element.
Example: Travel
Change the description for the cost element.
Example: Travel expenses

Note that the cost element category cannot be changed once costs have been posted
against it.

Click on the appropriate tab heading if you wish to change other information relating to
the cost element.
