GENERAL REFLECTION
Overall, how successful was this lesson?
Overall, I think the lesson was successful in teaching the students the lesson objective and challenging
and engaging them in relevant and meaningful learning.
GOALS/OBJECTIVES
In what ways were your goals/objectives appropriate for your students?
My goals and lesson objectives were specific and aligned with TEKS, and the lesson consisted of reviewing Chapter 10, Unit Four: Revolution and Republic with the students.
In what ways were they not appropriate?
I do not think the objectives were inappropriate.

ASSESSMENT
How effective were your assessment strategies in measuring student achievement of the learning goals/
objectives for this lesson?
My assessment strategy included completing the Chapter 10-Unit Four review notes, using an activity
to review for the CBA that included candy as a reward, as well as completing an exit ticket about Texas
independence from Mexico.
Would you make any changes to the assessments strategies you used? What changes would you make
and why?
Yes, I would have completed the notes the day prior to allow more review time. I would have gone
over the exit ticket before the class ended. Additionally, improving my transitions is something I will
continue to do.

ALTERATIONS
Did you depart in any way from your plan? If so, how? Why?
Yes, I departed from the lesson when I did not get to review the exit ticket with the class due to the
second round of the activity lasting longer than I anticipated.

Instructional
Strategies

I stood at the front of the classroom and reviewed the bell

ringer with the students, that
asked students to identify why
the Texas defenders at the Battle
of San Jacinto used the battle
cry, Remember the Alamo,Remember Goliad!.This led to
briefly discussing facts about the
Battle of San Jacinto. I used the
PowerPoint to complete the remainder of the notes for the
Chapter 10-Unit Four review.
After the notes were completed
and briefly reviewed, the class
played a review game, Row
Race, that asked the students
various questions that pertained
to Chapter 10: Unit Four. The
students were rewarded with
candy if their row won the row
race or if they correctly answered bonus questions.
I gave the students an exit ticket
that asked them to explain how
they thought Texas would be different if it had not won independence from Mexico.

I would improve my transitions

and I would have allowed more
time for discussing the exit ticket.

Student
Grouping

Students were seated individually at their desks for the note-taking part of the lesson and were
seated individually in rows of
three for the Row Race activity.

I would not have changed the

seating arrangement. Although,
if needed, I would have allowed
ELL students to be paired with a
native speaker or SPED students
to be seated in an arrangement
that benefits them the most.

Student
Activities

The class completed their Chapter 10-Unit 4 review notes. Students participated in a review
activity. The students also completed an exit ticket that asked
them to explain how they
thought Texas would be different
if it had not won independence
from Mexico.

To improve the lesson I would

have completed the review notes
with the class the day prior to
allow more time for wrapping up
the lesson and discussing the exit
ticket.

Materials, Resources,
and Technology

Overhead projector, whiteboard

pencils/pens, Unit Four review
notes, Row Race questions
sheets, post-it notes for the exit
ticket.

I would consider adding a third

round to the Row Race activity or using Kahoot, Quizizz to
engage the students in learning
about the lesson topic.
