afuturequiz.Theywillalsobeencouragedtocompleteahomeworkhandoutprovidinga
seriesofquestionsinrelationtothecontent.

ASSESSMENT
Thestudentswillbeassessedontheirinclassparticipationbycallingonstudentsrandomlyas
wellasvoluntarily.
Studentguidedpracticeworkwillbeviewedastheteacherwalksaroundandobservesthemin
pairsandgroups.
Thestudentswillbeabletoidentifypolynomialsinstandardformaswellasperformthe
operationsofadditionandsubtraction.Analysisofcomprehensioninthesubjectmatterwillbe
identifiedthroughtheKahootsiteaccessoriesintargetingwhichstudentsgotparticularquestions
correctorincorrect.
Studentswillalsobeassessedthroughthemeasurementoftheirproficiencythroughthe
completionofagivenworksheetwithnomorethan3mistakes.

INDEPENDENTPRACTICE
Thestudentswillbeabletocompleteagivenhandoutusingtheoperationsofadditionand
subtractiontosimplifypolynomialexpressions.Theywilldemonstratetheirunderstandingby
completingthishandoutwithnomorethan3mistakes.

DirectTeacherIntervention:Inordertoreteachtheobjectiveusingnewstrategiesforstudents
whodidnotattaintheobjective,thesestudents,underdirectinterventionwiththeteacher,willbe
presentedwithintegersandassistedincombiningintegersandtherebytermsbyusingcolor
codedchipsandalgebratiles.Studentswillbeaskedtocompletethiswithaseriesofinteger
examples.Studentswillthentransitionintoincludingthevariable,x.Theteacherwillgivea
seriesofmultiplechoiceproblemswithhintboxesasreferenceofwhatstepstocompletein
ordertoachievethecorrectanswer.Theteacherwillencouragethestudentstoselfevaluateby
colorcodingorhighlightingeachtimetheycompletedastepcorrectly.Theteacherwillprovide
specificfeedbacktothestudentswork.
AcademicEnrichment:Inordertoextendthelearningexperienceforstudentswhohaveeasily
mettheobjective,thestudentswillbechallengedtotakeonmorecomplexpolynomial
expressionsbysimplifyinghigherorderexpressionsthroughcombiningliketermsandfollowing
theoperationsofadditionandsubtractionwhilerelatingtoteacherinstructedstandardsand
objectives.Havingthestudentshighlighteachtimetheycorrectlyansweredaquestionwill
encourageselfevaluation.Theteacherwillprovidespecificfeedbacktotheworktoberevised
independently.
