Whats in Your Water?

Turner 2.9 Chemistry

Research Question / Problem Statement

If you leave a Zyprahills water bottle in a hot environment will there be a higher
amount of ph than the amount of ph that is in the water when you purchase it.

Rationale
I did this experiment because I know people have been wondering if leaving their
water bottle in a hot environment will release high levels of toxins into the water.

Hypothesis
I think that if you leave a bottle of zyprahills water outside a higher amount of ph
will leak into the water.

Materials

3 zyprahills water bottles.

9 Ph testing strips
Pot
Thermometer
Stove
Refrigerator

Take temperature of Bottle C three times.

Take ph level of water bottle C three times.
Record data.
Put water in a pot.
Set the stove to high.
Put the pot on the stove.
When that water starts boiling put Bottle B in the water. Then wait 30 minutes.
Take the temperature of Bottle B three times.
Take the ph level of Bottle B three times.
Record results.
Put water bottle A in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Take the temperature of water bottle A three times.

Procedure
13. Take ph level of Bottle A three times.

Results
The water bottle that was exposed to hotter temperatures had more ph leaked into
the bottle.

Conclusion
In conclusion my hypothesis was accepted and once the water bottle was exposed
to a warmer temperature more ph was leaked into the water. If I were to do this
experiment again I would try to find a thermometer that can take the temperature
of warmer water.

Independent Variable: The temperature.

Dependent Variable: The ph level.
