Assignment #6: Using an authentic text, create an activity for your class that aligns with a
concept that you have taught.

Lesson: Weather
Objective: SWBAT discuss and identify the different types of clothing items that can be worn
during each weather season IOT understand the diversity of apparel in different countries.
Literature: Estaciones del ao by Kiria Spring
Summary of text: This book illustrates the seasons of the year. It demonstrates what people do
and wear during winter, spring, summer and fall.
Classroom background: Students have already been introduced to the topic of weather through a
song called Las estaciones del ao by ngel Parras. After learning about the seasons in
Spanish students will then be asked to make connections between the weather and the types of
clothing that people wear when each season changes.
Lesson context: Students will be asked to discuss their favorite type of weather and clothing with
each other. We will then read the book Estaciones del ao, in which students will pay close
attention to the pictures and the description of each weather season. After reading the book
students will discuss what they like to do during their favorite season. In addition to the
classroom discussion, students will also describe what types of clothing they wear in each one of
those times. After this discussion students will be asked to play a game called La maleta
viajera in order to make connections between types of clothing and the seasons. After this game
students will then be tasked to do a presentation in front of the class, in which they will state
their favorite season and the types of clothes they wear. This activity will work as a segway into
the different types of weather in Spanish-speaking countries and their cultural apparel.

Game: La maleta viajera
Students will be divided into three or two teams, depending on how big the class is. Each group
will work as a team to identify and classify the clothing items that will be placed inside of La
maleta viajera. Each team will have their own table in which they will see place cards with
pictures that correspond to each season in the targeted language (Ex. Verano, Invierno,
Primavera, y Verano). Students will also have additional place cards that contain the names of
each clothing item in Spanish (Ex. Sombrero, Gafas de sol, traje de bao, etc.) so that students
may identify their items, while also reviewing their Spanish vocabulary. Students must then
discuss as a team in what season each item belongs to and why. The teacher will serve as a
traveler referee to give students guidance if they have any questions regarding the Spanish
vocabulary. Whichever team ends up identifying and placing each clothing item in the correct
place first, wins the game.
Activity #1: Qu utilizas en ?
In this activity students will be asked to draw their favorite season and the types of clothes they
would normally wear. Students must write the name in Spanish of the season and the clothing
item that they decided to illustrate. They will do so by using the sentence form Yo uso (clothing
item) en (season), example: Yo uso gafas de sol en verano. When students have completed
their drawings they will then present their art work to the class using the vocabulary they learned
from the story and the lesson. During their presentation they will once again use the sentence
form Yo uso en. to describe what they usually wear during a specific weather in front of
the class. Through this activity students will be assessed on their verbal skills and comprehension
of the taught vocabulary. At the end of this activity, the pictures will be collected and comments
will be given on each students presentation.
