October 2, 2016 Barbara 0’Connor Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration Department of Veterans Affairs Human Resources Management Service 9-05 Tucson, AZ Re: Registered Nurse ~ Medical/Surgical Opening 2South Dear Ms. 0’Connor: I was excited to hear that there may be an opening for a registered nurse position on 2South, a medical-surgical unit at Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS), and I hope to be invited for an interview. As a future graduate from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing I am eager to begin my career at a hospital that values dedication to Veteran-Centered Care and serves as a national model of clinical and organizational excellence. My background includes clinical experience at SAVAHCS, Northwest Medical Center, Banner University Medical Center, and Tueson Medical Center. As part of my final clinical rotation, T had the opportunity to fulfill my five-week preceptorship at SAVAHCS on 2South, a Medical- Surgical unit, As a student nurse, working with a SAVAHCS preceptor, I was able to provide hands-on nursing care for up to six patients on the 2South unit, During my preceptorship my duties included developing and implementing individualized plans of care for patients, ongoing patient assessment, medication administration, extensive charting, admissions and discharges, and communication with patients, their families, and all members of the interdisciplinary team. I also had the opportunity to shadow Kelly Wettengel, the clinical nurse leader (CNL) on 2South which improved my understanding of the patient-care process as a whole and how application of evidenced based practice is implemented on the unit to improve patient-care outcomes. Previously, I worked as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Northwest Medical center. I primarily worked on the Orthopedic-Surgical unit where I cared for pre- and post-operative patients. I also spent over a hundred hours floating to the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. As a CNA I developed valuable time management and organizational skills that I believe will support my ability to be a great nurse. am confident that I can offer you the compassion and dedication it takes to work as a successful nurse within the SAVHCS. Please give call me at 520-271-7452 (cell) to arrange an interview. I can also be reached by email at karenjanet hatch@gmail.com.
