1.0

PURPOSE
In ord er to fu lf ill t he clea n liness re quireme nts for rapi d commissioning and
trou ble f ree op eration of th e plant , the Und ergr ou nd and Aboveground fuel
gas sup ply lin es are to be cleaned before co mmis sio n ing by pig cleaning
method and spe cial attention must be pai d to ex-work clean equipment /
co mpon ents inst alled into the f uel gas pipin g syste m .
After cl e anin g the both fuel gas supp ly li nes by cle anin g m edia , it has to be
jll ed with n itro ge n for corrosion protectio n unt il th e oxy g en concentration is
re du ce d l c about 5 %

SCOPE OF APPLICATI ON
These work ing instructions apply t o the foll owing f uel ga s (F G) supply piping
syst em as att ache d pig cleaning plan draw in g .

Part 1:
Und erg round and A bovegr ound FG lines (ON 200) fr om exi sting RMS to FGSS
(Pipe Le ngth : App roxim atel y 59 me ters )

Part 2:
Above gro und FG lines (D N 200 ) fro m FG SS to f ina l filt er

(Pipe Le ngth : Appr oximate ly 150 mete rs )

PRECAUTION
The following preca uti ons must be kept to prevent excessive strain on pressure parts
and danger to personnel during pigging work s.
1) Ascertain that no damage to personnel or property could occur at pigging area and
ins tall the safety rop es around the pigg ing area and the placard of "Danger" or notice
board.
2) During the pigging works , do not approach the piping around the receiver end except
for checking.
3) Communication system between conductor and operator should be arranged .
4 ) Prepare an d use the earplug for hearin g protection during pigging works.

6.0

CLEAN ING PROCEDURE

6.1) Basic requirements
Inspection of all pipe sections for conta mination , lost tools etc. in the pre-erected
pipes before installation clean where necessary The cleaned piping surfaces shall
be free from large particles and weldi ng tears , scale and sand
All fi eld welds. wh ere access is possible sh all be manually cleaned. It is required to
inspect the installed piping an d the quality of welds with the radiograph y test to
confirm the quality of all welds . If there is dangers that weld drops can be become
loose , the weld has to be reworked.

6. 2) Prepadng the FG supply li ne before the cle aning Nill be divided into
foll owi ng main pa rts
(1 ) Prep aring f or Part 1:
a. Rem ove th e sm all spool from FGSS to un dergroun d pi pe line connecting part and
install the pig launcher.
S Dis co nne ct the fl ange co nn ection f ro m exi sting RMS te e tie in point and
in stal l the pig re c eiver.

(2) Prepa ring f or Part 2:

a. Rem ove the small spool from final filter and FG pipe connecting point and install pig
launch er.
b. Disc onnect the f lange co nn ection fro m FGSS and install pig receiver.

Not e:

1) The position for th e pig launcher and receivers could be changed as per the site

conditions.

(4) Cleaning m edi a

For clean ing media , the compressed air driven pigging is to be applied to

all prefa bricated fuel gas piping.

7.0 CLEAN ING SEQ UENCE

7. 1) P art 1:
(1) Che ck th at t he p ig lau nc hers and re ce ive rs are in sta lleo correctly.
(2 ) Che ck tha t air co m pressor is avai lab le to put in serv ice
(3) Ch eck th at drain and vent valves on th e fu el gas p ipe are c losed .
(4 ) In sert th e pig in t he pig la uncher.
(5) Press u riz e t he p ig launcher by com pressed air , ch eckin g th e air pressure, in
the m e ant ime , th e air leakage and unexpected probl ems should be checked in
advance
(6 ) Start th e c lean ing pig to the pipe.
(7 ) Clo se th e ai r s uppl y valve to the pi g laun cher after confirm ing that cleaning
pig is arrived at the pig receiver

(8 ) O pen th e p ig receiv er (filt er tr ap) and tak e out th E, cleC'.nin g pig.

(9) C he ck th e surfac e dama ge of the cle anin g pi g and Judg e the cleanliness of
t he pip e inside
(1O)Rep ea t th e ab ove step until no deb r is is di schar ge d oul of piping anymore.

7.2) Part 2:
Perform t he "P art 2' pig cle anin g works in the same mann e; as the "part 1"
cle anin g wo rks .

8.0

JUDGMENT OF COMP LETION

8.1 ) More than 2 time s pigging pr oce dure sho uld be applied as a practice.
8. 2) Fin al co nd it io n for the judgme nt of pig ging com pleti o n sh all be mutually
agreed between Owner Engineer and con tractor wh en the acceptable
cle anl iness by vi su al inspection is me t the fo ll ow ing condItion s:

RESTORATION
Install and co nnect all permanent plpm g, va lves or equ ipm ent which were
re mo ve d f or the cle ani ng wo rk s and mak e sure that n o dirt ! debris is introduced
i nto the FG su pply pip ing system.

10.0

PRESERVAnON AFTER CLEANING

The whole system should be filled with Nitrogen gas just afte' FG system (A/G) has
been clea ned by pigg ing works for th e purpose of preservati on
Refer to the air purging procedure with nitrogen gas for FG supply system in the
comm issioning procedure (Document No. BAP P-CT -FS-9 5-0101 L
