Name of Lesson: Entertaining Beginnings Lesson #: 5
Date: November 22nd, 2016
After teaching the lesson, analyze student performance and your
teaching by responding to the following questions.** To what extent did the students achieve the outcomes you intended? List specific EVIDENCE/DATA that provides information about student learning. Based off of the students assessment, I believe they successfully reached the objective that was intended to be met in the lesson. They were able to use their skills and knowledge of entertaining beginnings to edit and revise their writing to ensure that their beginning was entertaining so that it would hook the reader. Each student used either a sound, action, dialogue, question or thought/feeling. Which of your instructional strategies were most effective in helping your students learn? Explain how it was effective. The peardeck was very beneficial for instruction. It helped give me an idea of how well the students could identify entertaining beginnings and whether or not they needed extra support. Since entertaining beginnings was more of a review, the peardeck showed that the students could accurately identify entertaining beginnings and would not have a difficult time incorporating these beginnings in their own stories. How did you provide instruction to accommodate student needs/differentiation? In order to accommodate and differentiate for students, when we did the peardeck quiz I made sure to read each question and beginning out loud. This helped support the learning of my lower readers or even students who are unable to see from the back of the classroom. Also, similar to previous lessons, when the students began their independent work I was a scribe for a couple of the students who needed the support. What have you learned from this lesson that will affect your planning for the next or future lessons in the unit? Identify any changes/adjustments you made during the lesson. From teaching this lesson, I learned the positive aspects off have an August 2015
interactive review. The students enjoyed doing the peardeck and it
motivated them to jump into continuing their adventure narrative. It also showed me the benefits of seeing any confusion that may take place throughout the review and the perks of being able to take advantage of that teachable moment.
