Reflection lesson 3

On Sunday November 6, 2016, I taught my third lesson which was about prey and
predator. At the beginning of the class, I told them a short story about trip to the zoo.
The story about Mohammed who missed the bus then his parents took him to the zoo.
After that he arrived the zoo and he saw something written on the door "because you
are late you have to order the food chain zebra, grass and lion. Then told them short
story about the prey and predator by using the puppets (tiger and mousse). According
to Retelling the story using props can encourage children to use story language and
to develop their oral language. (Browne, 2015). After that I showed them video
about prey and predator and I asked them questions related to the video. In addition, I
gave each group pictures (lion, tiger, hawk, rabbit, mouse and zebra), cork and glue. I
asked students to classify the animals into prey and predator. Moreover, I chose one
students from each group to present the work. At the end I gave students worksheet, I
played with them who will the mask and I asked them what you learned today. For
this lesson I used PPT, Video, worksheet, cork, glue, mask, colors. I also used
Pictures of (lion, tiger, hawk, rabbit, mouse and zebra).
Before I taught the lesson I was excited because this my third lesson and Mr. Garnel
will observe me. Moreover, after I taught lesson I felt happy because every things
went smoothly without any problems. In addition, I felt glad because I got good
feedback from my MST and from Mr. Garnel. I also felt proud of myself because my
MST told me that I did a good job and my lesson was interesting.
In terms of what were good, I think the best things was that my classroom
management was well. Moreover, I think my time management was good because I
finished the lesson on time and I evaluated students understanding by play with them
who will win the mask activity and by the worksheet. I also think that my group
reinforcement was really effective because it managed student's behaviour.
Furthermore, the individual reinforcement was also effective because it motived
students to participate. I also think that telling students story by using the puppets
was really effective.
In terms of what was bad, I think the thing that was bad that I didnt differentiate the
classifying activity, I gave whole groups the same animals. As a result of the students
classified and presented the same animals.
My classroom management went well because I used the rules, individual and group
reinforcement. The individual reinforcement that I used were words and stars. The
group reinforcement that I used was one big start for each group and I wrote the name
of group on it such as group 1, group 2 and etc. Moreover, on the board I wrote the
name of the groups, I gave 1 points for time (speed) , 2 points for answer correctly,
and 2 points for quiet and organization. That means I assessed them on time, answer
correctly and the quiet and organization. In addition, I gave two stars for a group who
get more points and one star for other groups because they did the work.
Additionally, I let students to set and work as group. According to Gillies & Terwel
"in several studies, groups of three to four students trained in collaborative process
displayed more cooperative behavior gave higher level explanation and enjoyed

learning more than did untrained groups" (Berk, 2006). Furthermore, I think my time
management was good because I used the timer and I gave them five minutes to do
the activity.
Next time, I will try to do a differentiation for activities according to their level (high,
middle and low). For high level I will give them some challenges. I will also try to
let them write something.
