Reflections from the solo period and what

you've learned about teaching, lesson
planning, and assessments in relationship to
learner development.

I am amazed at how fast four weeks can fly by.

As I anticipated solo teaching, my thoughts were
exactly, this is going to be a long four weeks.
That obviously proved me wrong, and within
those 4 weeks, I was able to make mistakes,
learn from them, and grow. I now have a better
understanding how important the task is of what
teachers go through day to day.
Through these four weeks, I found out what my
biggest weakness were, and worked hard to
improve in that area. I learned that I needed to
work on lesson planning, and even though my
solo time is completed, I will continue to
practice lesson planning to better my practice as
I enter the teaching career full time.
This career is not about being perfect, and I
really had to understand that concept. Its all
about taking the time to self-reflect and really
stay committed in becoming a better version of
ourselves. Whatever struggles we face, we
should analyze it, research ways to make
improvements, and execute them. The biggest
take away from this experience is building
relationships with my students, helping them
grow and guiding them in becoming a better
version of themselves day by day.
For example, Ive noticed that for one student,
she was becoming more behavioral, and I really
had to talk to her one to one. I learned that she
gets frustrated because she doesnt understand
the work, which led to disruptive behaviors. I
knew I had to create an environment for her,
where she is provided with more support from
me. I did a lot of one to one with her, made
adjustments to her seating in the classroom, and
put a reward system in place for motivation.
As I am wrapping up my reflections for my solo
plan and six-day lesson planning, I found that
with constant practice in writing, students show
tremendous growth. From my pre-assessment to
my post-assessment, students that I thought
wouldnt make improvements within the four
weeks, truly surprised me. Although I did have

some students who I thought would make gains,

did not. I understand now the importance of
student expected targets, and how we as teachers
are going to get our students there.
This was an incredible journey, and Id like to
hope that I was made for this profession, and that
I can continue to learn and grow as an educator,
with the help of veteran teachers and mentors.
