What additional training would have been beneficial to you in your position?

What could the PA Turnpike Commission have done to prevent your leaving?
I really didn't want to retire yet. I like my job. The first 30 years were great but the last 5 years are terrible. (10 years as a toll
collector, during which I served a few years as a union officer, 25 yrs in Management) We have no Morale. I feel the PTC is
rudderless, that executive level management is out of touch with the average employees, only looking out for themselves.
Everything is a state secret, no input is asked from the field until after decisions are made. Employees are kept in the dark.
Example We got daily reports/requests on SECA but nothing about cashless tolling on Toll 376. All that the collectors know
is the road is going cashless in April 2017, nothing about are any jobs being kept including janitor, or anything about bidding,
floaters or bumping out. No detail are giving, just what was said at last years meetings. The first 30 years I felt I was part of a
team, the last years I felt as an outsider, that we, in the field don't matter
13. What has been good/enjoyable/satisfying for you in your time with us?
I liked working with my co-workers and the public.
I also enjoyed being on the America's First Weight Barrier System Team, training the employees at AKH, Toll 60, Clark
Summit.
I enjoyed the challenge of making the PTC a better place.
14. What has been frustrating/difficult/upsetting to you in your time with us?
1. The lack of consistancy, rules altered on a daily basis. We all do things differently
2. The phoneyness, exampleGiving us classes where we are being told we are not political. Thats Bull Shit.
Jobs/Promotions are filled by the politicans, its who you know, not what you know. Positions created for people who are not
qualified. Hiring people off the street when we have qualified personal in our ranks. Another example is the email from a PTC
commissioner trying to get someone a job (the email was accidently sent). Nothings changed, why pretend. I am not
complaining about the system, I was part of it. I have no problem with the political system, But to stand there and lie about us
changing
15. If you have other employment, in what ways is your new position better than the position you held with the PA Turnpike
Commission?
N/A, But I don't feel any other position would be better than my position on the PTC. I liked my job and was thankful to have
it. I could have used my political connections to get a better job but I was happy where I was. I have no ax to grind with
the PTC, I am not a disgruntled employee.
16. If there are other reasons for leaving not stated in this questionnaire, please explain.
I feel upper management (Executive Level) doesn't care about us or appreaicate us. The feeling I get is; just do what we tell
you or find another job. As I stated above I didn't want to retire yet, I am only 58, but I don't feel part of the team anymore.
17. What changes would you recommend that be done to improve the quality of work life at the PA Turnpike Commission?
Most importantly improve Morale. Better communications with the employees. Let them know what the options are in regards
Toll 376 and give them detailed information, after all its their livelyhood. Get rid of unqualified employees (I Know thats a
dream, they have political connections or are someone's relative) Recognize good employees and don't judge everyone based
on a single bad employee.

Revised 7/2014

18. Explain your reasons you would or would not consider returning to work for the Commission and if you would recommend
the Commission to prospective employees.
I would not recommend anyone to work the PTC at this time. That is strickley due to going Cashless Tolling and never seeing
Full Time (That's what they are telling them in Harrisburg in orientation.) As to other departments, I would hope that
displaced Toll Collectors would get those jobs first. And promotions would be inhouse instead of hiring people off the street.
