Fall Quarter: Design

After team leaders work to evaluate the performance

of the current vehicle, design begins from the
ground up. Literally. Tires are the cars only contact
with the ground, so design starts with the tires and
works towards the driver.

Winter Quarter: Manufacturing

Winter is dedicated to manufacturing and

purchasing system components. Team members
are responsible for bringing their designs into
reality, learning sound machining practices
along the way in the ME Machine Shop.

Spring Quarter: Testing

The earlier testing starts, the better. It is critical

that the team is able to test the cars mechanics
and provide valuable seat time for drivers.
Frequent testing allows members to validate
their designs and gain insights into future
design development.

Summer Quarter: Competition

UW Formula Motorsports competes at FSAE Lincoln and Formula

Student Germany. At competition, a panel of judges from the
automotive and motorsports industry judge teams in multiple
categories including cost-analysis, business plan, engineering
design, and various dynamic performance trials. The majority of
points come from dynamic events, including a grueling 13.67
mile (22 kilometer) endurance event.

Team Goals:
1) To produce world-class engineers through a
commitment to learning and innovation
2) To design, build, test and tune, and prepare a
car to maximize total points of all events at
competition
3) To justify engineering decisions with
simulations validated by physical testing
4) To improve administrative operations through
professional business practices, effective
documentation and open communication

The Future: Electric

Starting with team 29, UWFM will transition to
build a single electric car. This decision comes
with the knowledge that electric is the future
of FSAE. The transition will provide a whole
new world of learning opportunities potential
for success at competitions
