AQUATIC PLANTS

LOTUS FLOWERS (NELUMBO NUCIFERA).

Nelumbo nucifera, also known as Indian lotus, sacred lotus, bean of India, or simply lotus, is
one of two species of aquatic plant in the family Nelumbonaceae. This plant is an aquatic
perennial. Under favorable circumstances its seeds may remain viable for many years, with the
oldest recorded lotus germination being from that of seeds 1,300 years old.

WATER LILY
(Nymphaeaceae), any of 58 species in 6 genera of freshwater plants native to the temperate and
tropical parts of the world. Most species of water lilies have rounded, variously notched, waxycoated leaves on long stalks that contain many air spaces and float in quiet freshwater habitats.
The stalks arise from thick, fleshy, creeping underwater stems that are buried in the mud. The
showy, fragrant, solitary flowers are borne at or above the water surface on long stalks that are
attached to the underground stems. Each cuplike flower has a spiral arrangement of its numerous
petals.

WATER HYACINTH

Water hyacinth is a free-floating perennial plant that can grow to a height of 3 feet. The dark
green leave blades are circular to elliptical in shape attached to a spongy, inflated petiole.

CATTAIL
Cattails are wetland plants with a unique flowering spike, flat blade like leaves that reach heights
from 3 to 10 feet. Cattails spread rapidly because their seeds blow in the wind and float on the
waters surface and vegetatively they spread from underground rhizomes.

PITCHER PLANTS
Pitcher plants are several different carnivorous plants which have modified leaves known
as pitfall trapsa prey-trapping mechanism featuring a deep cavity filled with digestive
fluid liquid. The traps of what are considered to be "true" pitcher plants are created from
modified leaves; however they are not simply folded into a tube, and the process is far more
complicated.

TERRESTRIAL PLANTS

PINE TREE
A pine is any conifer in the genus Pinus, /pinus/,of the family Pinaceae. Pinus is the sole genus
in the subfamily Pinoideae. The Plant List compiled by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and
Missouri Botanical Garden accepts 126 species names of pines as current, together with 35
unresolved species and many more synonyms.

CACTUS
A cactus (plural: cacti, cactuses, or cactus) is a member of the plant familyCactaceae, a family
comprising about 127 genera with some 1750 known species of the order Caryophyllales. The
word "cactus" derives, through Latin, from theAncient Greek , kaktos, a name originally
used by Theophrastus for a spiny plant whose identity is not certain.

PEEPAL TREE
Ficus religiosa or sacred fig is a species of fig native to the Indian subcontinent,south-west China
and Indochina. It belongs to the Moraceae, the fig or mulberry family. It is also known as the
bodhi tree, pippala tree, peepul tree peepal tree or ashwattha tree (in India and Nepal).

BAMBOO
The bamboos are a subfamily (Bambusoideae)of flowering perennialevergreen plants in the
grass family Poaceae.Giant bamboos are the largest members of the grass family. In bamboo, the
internodal regions of the stem are usually hollow and the vascular bundles in the cross section
are scattered throughout the stem instead of in a cylindrical arrangement.

The dicotyledonous woody xylem is also absent. The absence of secondary growth wood causes
the stems of monocots, including the palms and large bamboos, to be columnar rather than
tapering.

ATIS
Atis is the Philippine name for Sweet Sop and Sugar Apple. Atis is a relative to custard apple and
belongs to the Annona family. Atis is native to Central America, the Caribbean and northern
South America. Atis was introduced to the Philippines during the Spanish times.
Atis is a small tree that grows between 10 to 20 feet high when fully matured with oblong leaves
and green heart-shaped fruits with polygonal tubercles. The atis fruit has a white, sweet flesh and
black seeds.
