Argue a Position Draft 1

Many people are unsatisfied with the economic stance that they are in. Those people are
typically found in the middle and lower class in society. Some feel that the middle class is
disappearing, which many feel that the middle class is important in our society. The middle and
lower class blame the upper class for their problems, typically the all mighty one percent who
own a majority of the wealthy, especially in the United States. So what might be an idea that has
been suggested to help the lower class? I have heard that a redistribution of wealth, from the
wealthy classes pockets, is a popular option. Well, I think, there is a better option than that. The
best course of action is an increase in minimum wage rather than redistribution of wealth .
Redistribution of wealth may seem like a good idea. However, giving wealth to everyone
so that each person is at the same economic standing presents problems. First, it would lead us to
a form of socialistic society rather than our capitalistic society. In our society, we have a upper,
middle, and lower class of citizens. Upper class exists as overseers of businesses and are the best
type of tax payer to offer. The government and other organizations need tax money to function;
those organizations included public school, emergency services, some non profit organizations,
and etc. The middle class does the jobs that the lower class is not qualified enough for and the
upper class are basically too rich to do. Usually the middle class is referred to as the skill
workers and is very important in society. The lower class does the work that nobody wants to do,
and unfortunately these jobs must be done. Typically these jobs are the ones with minimum wage
attached to it. These three class work together indirectly in the capitalist society. Another reason
to avoid the socialist society is that with the same wealth being made all round, nobody would

want to work hard to achieve a higher job. If people want to to move to this type of society it
would take years of change before we could safer have a socialistics society.
Now what could we do that is different from a full redistribution of wealth to help out the
lower classes? There is another option that is popular and might be even more popular and
agreeable with a lot of people. The option is an increase of minimum wage for the low wage
worker. Now it has been suggested that it should be a federal increase of the minimum wage. I
believe it should not be federal, but rather it should be a state increase that varies based on the
state. Why do I believe that? Well each state has a different cost of living that varies depending
where you are at. With that being said, the popular amount for an increase in minimum wage is
fifteen dollars per hour. Living in Arkansas, I can tell anyone that an individual does not need
fifteen dollars per hour to live here. However, in a state like New York, where the cost for a basic
apartment is very high, would need that type of wage increase.
