Strategic Challenges:
1.If we do not address curriculum needs across grade levels with technology,
consistently we will not address the needs of a 21 st-century learner.
-A SWOT team member pointed out that technology is utilized and teacher training
more in the upper-grade levels and the lower grades are left with trying to find free
online programs and the use of Youtube for classroom instruction. Lack of funding,
teacher training and effective learning play a critical role as to why the elementary
has not been a technology based school. After interpreting the Star Chart Key Area
I: Teaching and Learning were rated a Developing Technology with TL1-Patterns of
Classroom Use with a low score of 1.

2. If we could effectively train teachers through the use of research-based

programs, we could become a school characterized by online learning and
innovative technology-based lessons.
-Educator Preparation and Development is a big issue in our school. The
implementation of Promethean boards in every classroom has been bittersweet. The
older teachers have yet even to turn it on and try while teachers that were excited
to get one have taken instruction to a whole other level. Professional development
for these boards has not been conducted for teachers, and we are left with
experimenting on our own. A SWOT member stated we are given up to date
technology without a basis to use it. The STaR also reflects this with Key

3. If we do not address the need for high-quality infrastructure within our school by
having knowledgeable technology program in place, we cannot be a technologydriven school.

-On the STaR chart,we rated as developing tech on Infrastructure. The concern for
the school and reflected in the STaR chart is that we do not have sufficient technical
support. At times we have to get contractors to come in and fix them from nearby
Corpus Chisti (2 hours away) or Laredo (1 hour ) to fix the computers it just depends
on how many computers are down. There is at least one disabled veteran that fixes
computers and pads at his house and has offered to volunteer at the school, and he
has not been utilized.

Strategic Advantages
1. We can expand the use of our two computer labs by training teachers and
staff to correlate curriculum with online learning.
In the SWOT form, it was mentioned the use of a lab being utilized for
technology rich lessons that correlate with TEKS and what is being taught.
The StaR chart is developing tech with a key area of distance learning
capacity as a 1.

2. We can improve our technology knowledge by partnering with two nearby

Texas A&M Universities for technology integration and training on both
scholarly aspects.
We have student teachers from both A&M -Kingsville and A&M International
that train in our campus and what they bring to the campus is valuable and
updated information in the education field. It would be beneficial for our
campus to bring students in that are in the technology field that can keep us
updated and resourceful.
3.We can expand our technology needs by applying for Title 1 grants to become a
1:1 Ipad school system to overcome our low numbers of students per computer
ratio.
Technology grants for Title 1 schools are abundant it is just finding when the
deadlines are and what they consist of. It would be beneficial for our campus to look
into these grants because of our status. We are at a developing tech campus rating
across each Key Area it is time we start catching up with the times.

I sent out 9 Swot invitations so far I received only two and I discussed some of the
issues that were mentioned above and included it in my findings. I am hoping to get
a few more responses during the Thanksgiving break.
