Description
The unit can be supplied with
five different degrees of expansion. The basic version
6MB5240-0 is designed for
use in a single busbar feeder
with four switching devices. It
provides 8 single commands
with, and 1 single command
without error detection, all bipolar, and 16 single indications.

Application
The 6MB524 bay control unit
is used for the distributed connection of the switchgear to
the SINAUT LSA substation
control and protection system.
It can be used in conjunction
with the compact 6MB513/514
control master unit or as a
distributed addition to the
6MB551 station control unit or
the 6MB552 compact remote
terminal unit. Because of its
enclosed compact housing it
is suitable for direct mounting
in the door of the low-voltage
top unit of a switchgear.
With the distributed structure
of the substation control and
protection, complicated parallel
cabling to carry the process information to a master station
is no longer required. Even the
interposing relays are eliminated. Because of the integration
of local operation into the
6MB524 bay control unit, the
local operating elements and
the remote/local changeover
switch are also obviated.
The bay control unit acquires
and processes indications and
analog measured values and
output commands. It is used
for distributed connection of indication contacts, command
outputs, current and voltage
transformers, transducers and
numerical protection relays in
medium, high and very highvoltage switchgear with a medium to large volume of commands and indications.
The 6MB524 unit is much
more powerful and has more
functions than the units previously available. It is possible
to operate it without a master
unit. The analog measured values can be acquired with a
class accuracy of 0.5 %.
All inputs and outputs of the
bay control unit connected to
the switchgear are isolated.

Operation
The unit is operated via the
membrane keypad and a
graphic display. The keys are
grouped together in blocks
identified by their colour in order to facilitate operations. All
the keys which are permissible in the current operating
state are also displayed in the
bottom line of the display.
Because local operation is integrated, numerous operator
actions can be performed:
Local operation for work in
the bay
Emergency operation facility if a master unit or serial
interface should fail
Display of process information (e.g. analog measured
values, indication list)
Tests and checks for the
unit
Editing of operational parameters during operation
(e.g. limit values, filtering
times, etc.)
The use of code words ensures that only authorized operators can work with the unit.
These code words can also replace the key switches familiar from the 8TK interlock system. The following authorization levels can be assigned:
Control with interlocks
(switchgear interlocking)
Control without interlocks
(S1 operation)
Unsynchronized control.
These authorization levels can,
but need not, be granted. The
local-remote changeover (S5)
takes place either automatically by selection of the feeder control display (if no code
word for interlocked switching
has been assigned) or by input
of one of the three code
words granting authorization
to switch.
The unit logs all code word inputs and operator actions in
the operation protocol.

Functions
The 6MB524 bay control unit
has the following functions for
bay-related information acquisition and processing:
Indication acquisition
Single or double indications,
bit pattern indications 3 to
32 bit, transformer tap position indications, grouped indication formations. Time resolution max. 1 ms, filtering
times parameterizable for
each indication input, chatter disable possible. The indication inputs can be assigned in any way and can
be evaluated multiply, in
this way an indication required in the system several
times only needs to be routed to the unit once.
Command output
Single or double commands
with command output with
error detection and correction: the transistors for controlling the output relay are
monitored. In the event of a
fault uncontrolled command
output can be prevented.
Commands can be output
both as pulse and continuous commands (any combination possible). Synchro
check is available.
Analog value acquisition
Acquisition of instantaneous
values via a direct transformer connection with a sampling rate of 1 ms, calculation of rms values, calculation of P, Q, cos (power
factor), f, calculation of
phase-to-phase voltages
and neutral voltage from
phase voltages.
Metering
Acquisition of metered values via indication input;
calculation of metered values from analog measured
values.
48
Online parameterization
Editing of defined parameters during operation via the
keypad directly on the unit.
These parameters are: Limit
values for analog measured
values, threshold values for
analog measured value
transmission, indication filtering times, metered value
freeze intervals, command
output times, monitoring
and delay times, waiting
times in operating sequences, code words.
Synchrocheck
Connection after checking
parameterizable synchronization conditions. The bay control unit can test whether
two different network sections meet the conditions
(voltage, frequency, frequency change, phase angle) for
interconnection.
The synchro-check can be
parameterized in various versions:
With zero sum formation
for the voltages. 4 voltage
inputs are required. Can
be used with the
6MB5240-3 and -4 units.
Without zero sum formation for the voltages. 2
voltage inputs are required. Can be used with all
unit versions.
With rotation direction
monitoring and zero sum
formation. 8 voltage inputs are required. Can be
used only with unit version 6MB5240-3.
The zero sum formation is for
monitoring the measuring inputs and the A/D converter.
This monitoring is recommended. Without this zero sum formation, the safety class attained is only that of the
7VK512 (digital automatic
reclosing).
3 x I, 6 x V
Autonomous operation of
the unit (without control master unit) is possible. The
bay control unit can be started up without a master unit.
In this case the parameters
are loaded directly into the
unit. Reliable operation of
the bay control unit is
therefore guaranteed even
in the event of faults in
communication with the
master unit.
Interlocking function
The bay control unit can perform the tasks of the interlock unit. Testing of the bayspecific interlock conditions
takes place inside the bay
control unit. System interlocking is handled by the substation control and protection master unit. LSATOOLS
is used to configure the interlock conditions.

Configuration
By configuration, the functions
for inputs and outputs are defined system-specifically. Configuration is performed with
the LSATOOLS parameterization system.
The parameter set is stored in
the bay control unit and not in
the master unit. In this way
the units can start up and be
operated completely autonomously.
The parameter sets can be loaded into the bay control units
centrally via the control master unit. To do this, the PC
program LSADIAG is used. In
addition, the parameter set
with LSADIAG can also be loaded into the bay control unit directly via the front panel interface. This procedure is useful
if a single bay control has to
be replaced.
When parameters are changed, those bay control units
that are not affected by these
changes remain in operation.
