Common Core State Standard(s)

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.3.3

their actions contribute to the sequence of events
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.3.5
Refer to parts of stories, dramas, and poems when writing or speaking about a text, using
terms such as chapter, scene, and stanza; describe how each successive part builds on
earlier sections.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.3.2
Determine the main ideas and supporting details of a text read aloud or information
presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively, and orally.
Student Learning Objective(s)
Using the story Charlottes Web, students will re-create a friendship scene that occurs
in the story.
*Considerations: ELL & special education students may need more individual help from
me.
o Rationale for Objective: How does this support previous and subsequent
learning?
Students have been learning about the theme friendship in Charlottes Web in
previous lessons.
Assessment
I will look at the students Voki characters to evaluate whether they understand the theme
of friendship in Charlottes Web. I will also look at their Prezi presentations about what
they have learned about friendship.
Classroom Learning Environment Focus

This lesson requires both direct instruction as well as student interaction. This lesson
mainly involves partner work. *Some students may need more one on one time with me.
Instructional Model/Strategy
Cooperative learning and partner work will mainly be used. Before the students create
their own Vokis and Prezis on the IPad or computer, the class will begin by discussing the
theme of friendship. Students will then work on their Voki characters and Prezis with
their groups.
Materials/Resources needed for this lesson
-Computer or IPad & internet access
-Smart board
Daily Formative Assessment
I will make sure students understand the content/instructions by asking them to put their
thumbs up or thumb down. I will also go around to each student during the activities to
see how they are doing.
Differentiating Instruction
-Students may use the computer or IPad for their Vokis and Prezis.
Initiation
A) Students will be creating a Voki character based on a character from Charlottes Web. They
will also create a Prezi presentation about friendship to present to the class.
B) Students will recreate scenes from the story using their Voki characters.
C) It is important and relevant to know how a true friend acts, and what a true friendship looks
like. Students are making friends every day; its important that they are good friends, and that
they choose respectable people to be their own friends.
Lesson Development
1. To introduce the lesson, I will refer to the previous lesson: Think about what we
have been talking about the past couple of days. What ultimately does friendship
mean?
2. To answer that question, each student will create a character from the story using
Voki. Their character will explain one friendship that they have in the story.
3. Each student will publish their character and show it to the class on the smart board.
4. After they show their characters, students will get into groups of three or four to
create a Prezi. The Prezis will include: traits of a good friend, one friendship in
Charlottes web, and what friendship means to them.
5. The groups will all share their presentations to the class.
*If a student is having trouble with the concepts/assignments, I will work individually
with that student.

Closure:
- Mention that friendship is a common theme in stories. Say: Make sure to look out
for friendships in other stories. Are they good or bad friendships based on what we
have learned about the characteristics of a good friendship?
