Question 1
Explanation
To comply with the configuration of other switches, we need to get VTP configuration of Sw1 or
Sw2. On Sw1 use the show vtp status command:
Sw1 & Sw2 are connected through E2/3 & E2/3 so we can see the native Vlan on these trunks
are 99. We should check both Sw1 & Sw2 to see if the Native Vlan on both sides match.
Question 3
Explanation
In VTP version 3, there are two additional fields under the output of show vtp status command.
They are:
+ Primary ID: The MAC address of the Primary Server
+ Primary Description: The hostname of the Primary Server
The Primary Server is used on VTP version 3 to avoid the bad behavior in version 2. In VTP
version 2, a VTP client (or Server) can be taken out of the network. When it comes back, it can
overwrite a VTP Server if its Revision number is higher. This problem no longer exists in VTP
version 3 because there is only one VTP Primary Server at a time. Only a VTP Primary Server
can create new VLAN.
After creating new VLAN, the VTP Primary Server will advertise its VLAN database to other
VTP clients/servers so in fact answer A is not correct. In this question you just need to check if
Sw1 or Sw2 is the VTP Primary Server then we can create both VLAN 500 & 600 on it. Then it
will advertise these VLANs to other switches.
From the output we see Sw1 is the Primary Server so we should configure VLAN 500 & 600
only on this switch.
Note: To make a switch a Primary Server, issue the vtp primary vlan under privilege exec
mode. For example:
Sw1#vtp primary vlan
Question 4
Explanation
To configure private VLAN we have to change VTP (even version 3) to Transparent mode. In
fact, to disable VTP pruning on Sw4 (in Client mode) we also have to change to VTP
Transparent mode so answer C can be understood as change SW4 to Transparent mode so it is
the best choice.
Note: Unlike VTP version 1 and 2 in which VTP pruning is enabled on VTP Server only, VTP
version 3 requires VTP pruning must be enabled on all the switches in the VTP domain so we
can also disable VTP pruning on each switch separately. Here is the link for your reference:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750x_3560x/software/release/122_55_se/configuration/guide/3750xscg/swvtp.html
With VTP versions 1 and 2, when you enable pruning on the VTP server, it is enabled for the
entire VTP domain. In VTP version 3, you must manually enable pruning on each switch in the
domain.

Q3 -> B . Got 1000/1000

Q3 Answer is A because they are asking about a configuration step in the process and
not the complete configuration.
And also in VTP v3, VLANs can be configured only on VTP primary switch.
Server/client modes come later.
Also, STP primary/secondary root are not a VLAN configuration. Read the question and
options carefully guys.
I got 1000/1000.
Study hard. All the best.

I meant the answer is B on my last comment. Sorry for the confusion.

Hi friends,
I have one simple doubt but which I am not able to get clarified. As per the above
topology, PC1 is connected to New Switch and PC2 is connected to SW4 (the Console
Access)
However, we are required to login into SW1 AND SW2 to check the status and configs.
Could you please let me know whether we have separate Console access to access SW1
and SW2 through other connected PCs in the real Exam?
I know its a bit silly, but still , just to erase this confusion out of my mind.

Hi everyone. For question 3, if B is the answer, how could you satisfy the second
requirement to configure VLAN 600 to choose SW2 as its primary root? Primary root is
configured on the local switch, right?

on Q1 : we must check new switch. why is he checking S1 ???????

October 26th, 2015
@Help
Because as the output shows, SW1 is the server (or Primary Server in this case) so the
new switch needs to be in the same domain & have the same version number as the
server. The configuration in D matches the server configuration so the new switch can
function properly as part of the network.

@Help
Another explanation is, you will already be looking at the possible configurations in the
new switch as a possible answer so there wont be any need to go looking for what you
already have.

this sim is really messed up in the exam.
heres what I saw:
2) The statement in question Which configuration step is valid? talks about single
STEP and not multiple steps/commands ( configuring VTP mode & STP primary root for
VLan require multiple steps). So again option B

After reading all the above comments twice, Ill go for option B which is Configure Vlan
500 and Vlan 600 on SW1 only.
Reasons are below
1) If sh vtp status command shows VTP version as V3, then vlans can only be created on
switch operating as PRIMARY SERVER and not on switch operating as SERVER.
To check which switch is operating as PRIMARY SERVER we have to check either of
these 3 fields
a) VTP Operating Mode b) Primary ID c) Primary Description
Combinations of above 3 fields will help determine that SW1 is operating as Server
and is PRIMARY also, So option B.
2) The statement in question Which configuration step is valid? talks about single
STEP and not multiple steps/commands ( configuring VTP mode & STP primary root for
VLan require multiple steps). So again option B

about Q4,
if SW1 is the primary server for the VTP domain, so he is the only switch that can create
Vlans in the VTP domain, right ??
so why just disable vtp pruning on sw4 only would be the correct solution ???
something not right with this question!!!
thank

@Elma
It is not a requirement for private VLANs to be created on a vtp primary server. While
VTPv3 is capable of transferring information about PVLANs, you can create them
