Will Obama Pardon Illegal Immigrants

WASHINGTON (AP)

Dreamers who signed up for deportation protection

now feel exposed. Hundreds of thousands of
young immigrants living in the country illegally
willingly came out of the shadows and identified
themselves to the Obama administration on the
promise that they'd be safe from deportation and
allowed to work.
Some may now regret that decision.

President-elect Donald Trump has promised to

immediately scrap the program that protected
these immigrants. If he does, it's not clear whether he would take action against the
more than 741,000 participants. But if he decides to pursue them, the government now
has their addresses, photographs and fingerprints.
Trump made illegal immigration the cornerstone of his campaign, promising to build a
massive wall along the Mexican border and deport millions of people living in the country illegally. Once he takes office, Trump can almost immediately rescind the promised
protection and, with it, likely void the accompanying work permits.
President Barack Obama initiated the program to shield from deportation young immigrants, some of whom don't even remember their native countries. It didn't give the
immigrants legal status, only "deferred action" meaning they wouldn't face deportation while they participated.
"These are the kinds of kids you should bring out of the shadows," said Sandweg, a
former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. "I don't think anyone envisioned a President Trump when this was created."
Trump wasn't subtle about his opposition to the program. He called it an "illegal amnesty" and promised to "immediately terminate" the program. And since winning office, Trump nominate immigration hardliner Sen. Jeff Sessions as attorney general. As
he considers other Cabinet vacancies, Trump has met with Kansas Secretary of State
Kris Kobach, who led his state's court fight to prevent an expansion of the deportation
protection plan.
Some Democratic lawmakers will now ask Obama to protect these immigrants with
pardons before he leaves office.

Fearing Trump Crackdown, "Dreamers" advised to end travel

NEW YORK (AP) Immigrants who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children,
but were protected from deportation by President
Barack Obama, are being
warned by some advocates to
make sure they are not traveling abroad when Donald
Trump is sworn in as president on Jan. 20.

IMMIGRATION
All the problems we face in the United
States today can be traced to an unenlightened immigration policy on the
part of the American Indian.
Pat Paulsen
Stopping illegal immigration would
mean that wages would have to rise to a
level where Americans would want the
jobs currently taken by illegal aliens.
Thomas Sowell
Historically, opposition to immigration
in the United States has been racially
and religiously motivated in the ugliest,
nastiest way possible.
Grover Norquist
Remember, remember always, that all
of us, and you and I especially, are descended from immigrants and revolutionists.
Franklin D. Roosevelt
The land flourished because it was fed
from so many sources--because it was
nourished by so many cultures and
traditions and peoples.
Lyndon B. Johnson
A nation ringed by walls will only imprison itself.
Barack Obama
We wanted a labor force, but human
beings came.
Terry Hayes
We have a bubbling successful melting
pot in this country so long as the ingredients are essentially European.
Jared Taylor
Good bless America and all the people
in it, not just some.

Some advocates, lawyers and

universities are concerned
that Trump might immediately rescind an Obama program that had allowed these
young immigrants to work and travel for humanitarian, educational or employment
purposes.
That could lead, they fear, to some people traveling abroad being barred from reentering the U.S.

In Florida Concealed Carry Permits Can Now Be Renewed Online
In Florida concealed carry permits can now be renewed online.
It just got a whole lot easier to renew your concealed carry license.
The Florida Department of Agriculture announced Wednesday you can now do it
online.
The process makes it quicker for permit holders.
More than 200,000 Florida residents hold permits that will expire in the new year. Permits are valid for seven years.
"As Florida concealed weapons licenses have become more popular, we quickly saw the need to ramp up our ability to manage that
program," said Aaron Keller with the state Dept. of Agriculture.
When your concealed carry permit comes up for renewal, the department will send you a reminder card in the mail. That card will
have information on it for you to plug in online.
Renewals are for permit holders who have already passed background checks.
Permit holders need the same materials to renew online as they would in person: their renewal notice and a recent digital passport-style
photo.
Keep in mind you cannot apply for a permit online, even if you had a permit, but it has been expired for more than six months. You'll
have to apply for a new license in that case.

Fearing Trump Crackdown, "Dreamers" advised to end travel

Trump made illegal immigration the cornerstone of his campaign, promising to build a wall along the Mexican border and deport millions of people living in the country illegally.
His actual plans, though, have yet to be revealed. Recently, he has said he wants to focus on people who
have committed crimes.
During a recent Time magazine interview, Trump expressed sympathy for the 741,000 people in
Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which started in 2012.
"We're going to work something out that's going to make people happy and proud," Trump said.
"They got brought here at a very young age, they've worked here, they've gone to school here. Some
were good students. Some have wonderful jobs. And they're in never-never land because they don't know what's going to happen."
Advocates are still being cautious.
Nancy Lopez-Ramirez, a 20-year-old student born in Mexico who is planning a trip there as part of a City College of New York class,
said she is glad the group is returning by Jan. 15.
"My mom is like 'I am concerned with you not coming back, I want you to be able to come back,'" she said.
"It is nerve-wracking but I think that at the end it is going to be worth it," said the political-science student, who was brought to the
U.S. when she was 4.
City College, part of the City University of New York, is one of the institutions advising students in the DACA program to return before
Inauguration Day. So is California State University, which told administrators to tell participants in the program "that if they are outside of the United States as of January 20, 2017, there is no assurance they will be allowed to return to the U.S."
Trump can rescind the promised protection right away through an "operational memo" because Obama implemented it through one,
said William Stock, president of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
He said the program's participants should not consider traveling overseas unless they absolutely need to.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Anthony Bucci said his agency "cannot speculate" when he was asked how long would
it take for CBP officers to deny entry to the U.S. to program participants if Trump eliminated the protection.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services records said that as of Dec. 31, 2015, about 22,340 people
in the DACA program were approved for the "parole" that allows them to travel outside the U.S.
Trump called the program an "illegal amnesty" during his campaign.
Tatyana Kleyn, an associate professor at City College who organized the upcoming Mexico trip, said
interest in it actually surged among students after the presidential election.
"So right now our bus fits 18 and we are bringing 20," she said. "It feels like a last chance."
