Diversity in employment
a. Hiring disabled employees and the challenges: give examples of the organizations which
hire disabled people and explain the types of disabilities of the employees and the
challenges in the employment
b. LGBT in the workplaces: identify organizations which are promoting LGBT in the
workplace and explain how LGBT can be a challenge in the workplace. How do the
organizations promote LGBT? Explain.
CHAPTER 5 2 JULY 2015 (2 groups)
a. Employer branding: identify the best companies to work for in Malaysia and in the world.
Explain why the companies are very attractive for job seekers. How do the companies
advertise or promote themselves in order to attract people to work there? Find out.
b. Employee recruitment is getting tougher nowadays because employers have to compete
in identifying the best talents to work in their companies. Instead of the conventional
recruitment techniques like posting job ads and employee referrals, some employers use
innovative and creative ways. Find out more about this and provide examples.

Find out about graphology. How is it used in HRM (especially in selection)? Which countries are
using it and explain the reliability of using graphology in HRM.

CHAPTER 7 9 JULY 2015 (2 groups)


a. The earthquake which was never expected to happen in Malaysia has been experienced in
Ranau, Sabah. The authorities predicted that the natural disaster is likely to happen in
Peninsula Malaysia, mainly in Kuala Lumpur and Pahang. Conduct a 30-minute briefing
for the class on what to do when earthquake happens. You are free to decide the title,
lessons to teach and methods to deliver.
b. What is simulation? How is it used in training? Show pictures to explain your answers.
What are the jobs which normally use simulation?
CHAPTER 9 AND 10 28 JULY 2015
a. Identify CEOs/directors who are highly paid in Malaysia and in the world. Generally
speaking, is the extremely high pay justified? In Islam, is it justified? Provide support.

What if they fail to perform and then terminated? Should they be compensated for losing
the job?
b. Identify the highest paid jobs in Malaysia/world. Why are they paid so handsomely?

a. Go around IIUM campus (in the mahallah, kulliyyah, cafes, the streets and other places
within campus). Identify places which are unsafe, dangerous and risky. Take photos and
discuss the danger/risks. Write the recommendations to the University authorities for
improvement. Also find out whether IIUM has the safety and health policies.
b. Identify ONE workplace (outside IIUM). Get the permission from the owner of the
premises and identify places which are unsafe, dangerous and risky. Take photos and
discuss the danger/risks. Also find out whether the organization has the safety and health
policies.

Identify cases of trade disputes which have led to industrial actions such as labor strike, lockout,
picket, boycott, sabotage, etc. Show pictures and explain the cases.
CHAPTER 13 11 AUGUST 2015
a. Identify ONE real case of misconduct in the workplace which is reported in the media.
Describe the misconducts and the case in general. Explain the actions taken by the
employer. What are the implications on the employee?
b. What is workplace romance? Is it allowed in the workplace? Is it permissible for
employees to take part in public rallies/demonstrations during off-duty? Discuss with
examples.
CHAPTER 14 13 AUGUST 2015
a. Identify countries/cities which are ranked as (1) the most dangerous to live in and (2) the
most expensive to live in. What are the HRM implications on companies which are
sending their employees to work in these countries? Discuss.
b. Identify countries which become major destinations for foreign investment. Why are the
countries so attractive for investors?

Your tasks:

1. To prepare for a 30-minute presentation in the class. Each member must take part in the
presentation because marks for presentation is based on individual presentation style.
2. To write the full report and submit the report along with the PP slides after the
presentation.
