Prepositions of movement, motion or direction

Prepositions are all around us, in any language. They can be confusing and very often, the
only way to tell if we are using the right one or not is if it sounds right. However, there are
some basic rules that will help us decide. A preposition used with a verb of movement
tells us in what direction someone is moving, that someone or something is going

somewhere.
Maisie ran into the shop to pick up a litre of milk.
Alice went to China to meet her friends who were studying there.
The bird flew to its nest at the top of the tree.
The lady got into the taxi and the taxi man drove her to the theatre.
The crowd moved slowly towards the stage to get a better look at The boss.

Some verbs of movement are: go, come, run return, come back, go back, fly, walk,
drive Other prepositions of movement are: across, around, along, up, down, past,
along, down, off, out of, over, through, towards, under, up, on

Prepositions of position and place

Prepositions of position and place tell us the position of someone or something.

Examples:
My mums house is next to mine.

audio

audio

I stood in front of the mirror to see how I looked.
