Chapter 3 Assignment: How did you react to Brians thoughts and actions? Do you think that
he is sensible or unreasonable?

Brians thoughts and actions were very detailed, and he really let go of his emotions because he
misses his family, and het misses the city. I felt bad for brian because he was all alone and he
was thinking bad things like, i'm going to die, Im going to die. his actions were dramatic, and
had big vocabulary words in it.When Brian was in the plane, a lot of things happened. The Pilot
had a heart attack, and the plane ran out of gas. He was spinning in the air, and fell into the
water. Brian was throwing up in the water while trying to swim and get onto land. I think it is
sensible because I can relate to other books I've read.

Chapter 4 Assignment: Write 5 similes about Brians current state and explain their meaning.
Use a Google Table to do this.
Similes

Meanings

Brians head hurts like a party that is way too It means that his head hurts really bad and in
loud.
parties it is really loud so he is describing his
headache like he's in a party.
After landing the plane brian is as relieved
as a owner who found his or her dog.

I means breian is really relieved and happy

that he didn't get hurt.

Brian is as lost as a needle in a haystack.

It means brian is really lost and you can't find

a needle in haystack because it would be lost.
That is how i am describing brian.

Chapter 5 Assignment:Positive Thinking

Many people believe that if they have a positive attitude, good things will happen. They believe
that people with negative attitudes somehow prevent good things from happening. Write an
editorial in which you support the power of positive thinking. Use Brians experience as an
example of how positive thinking can help people. At the conclusion of your editorial, encourage
people to adopt positive thoughts and to see what happens. ////
Positive thinking is very good for your hopes. You can achieve more things when you're
positive. For an example, one time i had this big book that I had to read, and I said, I never

going to get finished with this book. But I remembered what my mom said, Try your best to
read as much as you can everyday. And I put that positive thing intol out into my mind and I felt
more confident when reading the book. I think Brian felt more confident and positive when he
remembered what his teacher, M. Perpich told him, You are your most valuable asset. Don't
forget that. You are the best thing you have. And Brian felt more confident of trying to find food,
and shelter.
Chapter 6 Assignment: Pick an example of a flashback in the chapter, summarize it, and
explain how it helps/hurts Brian emotionally. When Brian was trying to think about how to get
some food, he was thinking about how his dad would make hickory smoked turkey on his grill.
That made him sade and more hungry. He was thinking about how when you bit into the meat,it
felt wet and juicy inside. That made him sad, too. He was trying to try a way to survive. Brian
remembered about the Air Force Tv Show. He thought about how the men ate lizards in the
desert. Brian felt useless because there were no lizards. He saw these bright reddish- orange
birds flying into the bright green woods. Brian started to follow the birds while he was crying in
hunger. The birds stopped. He saw some berries. His actions were shoving berries inside his
mouth. But he was STILL hungry.

Chapter 7 Assignment:Create a bubble map with 6 external bubbles. In the center, write
conflicts. Identify and describe 6 different conflicts youve seen in the book.

Chapter 8 Assignment:Retell a time when you had a dream that ended up being more of a
message to you I had a dream. This was a very important dream. I went to the Taco
Bell in Mililani and in my dream, I went through the drive through. My dad was
driving; my mom was in the passenger seat and my brother and I were in the back
seat. In my dream, we asked for 12 crunchy tacos, with two
waters and a Dr. Pepper mix. We came home after we got our meal and I ate three
crunchy tacos. I ate them one by one. My brother was shoving the tacos in his
mouth. I began to feel sick because I ate my tacos too fast. I told my parents after
I ate the last taco that I needed to go to the restroom. I threw up in the restroom. I
stayed home from school for two days. That dream gave me a message and the
message was that I should not eat Taco Bell every day.

Chapter 9 Assignment:Create a chart of objects that would be useful to create a fire and not
useful. Explain each.

Rocks, so you can rub them with the sticks, and rocks are just like coal!
Dry grass, so Brian can keep the fire going, and going.
Sticks, so you can make kinda like a teepee so the wind the blow it.

The catastrophic situation I am going to put myself in is a tsunami. The tsunami is 150 feet
high, and I cannot find my parents.I need to go find high ground and find a shelter. All I see is
waves and water. Half of the city is dead. I see people crying their eyes out on the streets. Blood
is everywhere, and I see Kids trying to find their parents, running to go to high ground. I see this
kid. I ask her her name. Her name is Latia. She is from chicago, but she came to hawaii with her
parents for the summer. I walked up the stairs to the mountian and
I think It will change me alot. When I see wig waves coming, I will remind them to get out of the

. I think this will change my emotions and how I look at things. It will change me because my
thinking, will get messed up a little about the confusion of what happened. I might have
problems about sad and emotional memories. I think I will be very cautious. That's How a
catastrophic situation will change me.
Chapter 12 Assignment:Suppose that Brian has a pencil. To help sort out his feelings about
his parents, he writes to one of them on a piece of birch bark. Write the letter that Brian might
write to his mother or his father. Keep in mind the issues and the details that are revealed in the
novel. Remember, too, that for certain reasons, Brian does not want to tell his father the
Secret.Dear Mom,
You will not be able to understand because Im writing this with a piece of birch bark, but
I have a lot of things to tell you. I feel sad. I dont like that you and dad are divorced. I am
depressed. I cannot get a fish from the lake. I am getting used to the woods, but I still
need help. I don't like you being with the guy that has blonde hair and wears the
poloshirt. I miss my family and I want you to get back together with dad.

Love,
Brian

Chapter 14 Assignment:Create a new invention that could help Brian survive in the wilderness.
I have an invention for Brian. I've made him a Iphone7. A IPhone7 will help him call someone to
find him . It will also entertain him by the games he can download. It will also help because there
is a GPS and he can find a restaurant. It will also help him with money so if he has a bank
account he could go out of his bank account and he can use apple pay. Another benefit is he
has pictures so he can remember the memories being in the Canadian Woods.

I think that if Brian gets into the plane wreckage, he might get hurt. I think also that he might
find the survival tools or weapons like, a GPS or He can find something to help contact
someone. He might find some materials to hunt better with, or different kind of tools. There is a
possible chance that he might die or drown. I think it's a waste of time because what if you don't
find the survival pack. It is also a waste of energy, too. I think there is a chance that Brian might
come back to his family. I he finds something in the survival pack to help him like a 911 call, or
something, He might come back to his family.

Chapter 18 &19 Assignment:Create a chart in for possible themes and cited reasonsd for each
