APPROACH & METHODOLOGY

The main objective of the Consultant is to estabilish the Technical,

Economical, Environmental, Social and Financial Viability of the project. Utmost care
is taken to keep the Social and Environmental impact to the minimum. This is carried
out with a multi-disciplined approach.
In order to achieve the above stated objective of the project, the following design
philosophy was adopted:
Adhere to IRC recommendations.
Adopt the prevailing best practices and available technical literature
Minimum Land Acquisition (LA).
Keep Social and Environmental affects to the minimum

TRAFFIC APPRAISAL:
Current traffic scenario:
The Various Surveys Conducted are as follows.
(I)

Preliminary Reconnaissance Survey in accordance with IRC & MORTH

specifications.

(ii)

Pedestrian traffic count at all the nodal points for two days during identified
peak hours.

(iii)

compare with working day and non working day pedestrian movement

(iv)

Number and duration of signal closure for time delay

(iv)

Study & Survey of old under pass nearer to the proposal.

PEDESTAIRN TRRAFFIC COUNT :

This Survey was conducted for all nodal points for 2 days during identified
peak hours. The identified peak hour is 8.00 A.Mto 9.00 A.M of the day. The Volume
of Pedestrians crossing the Road (per Hr) is Presented in below table

ORIGIN AND DESTINATION SURVEY:

(I)

This survey was conducted on 01.08.2013 between 8.00 hrs and 9.00 hrs.
Pedestrains crossing the road were enquired by the Consultant and origin and
destination points of the pedestrians are noted. From this survey we can find out
(i)

Existing movement pattern of pedestrians.

(ii)

Traffic generating points and volumes of traffics generated.

(iii) Critical traffic boundary.

(iv) To fix the most suitable location of proposed subway.

Number & Duration of Signal Closures:

The total number and duration of signal closures are ascertained from traffic
police and also collected at site for 24 hours and also time delay are presented given
below

To avoid the above time delay, pedestrain subway has been proposed. The full
time delay will be avoided when pedestrain subway constructed.

SURVEY OF OLD UNDER PASSE NEARER TO THE PROPOSAL :

To prepare site plan of the project with location of existing Pedestrian
crossings, existing movement pattern of pedestrians, various traffic generators such as
schools, shopping centers, hospitals, bus stops, etc.
Disadvantages of nearby existing subways:

Considering the large number of pedestrian movement near the Government Rajaji
Hospital, the authorities provided a subway.

Rajaji hospital near bus stop so cross road pedestrian use the bus stop .

Poor maintenance of these facilities, pedestrians continue to cross the road in these
places.

To obtain maximum utility of proposed subway, we have provided

Good Ventilation
Good Lighting(maximum use Nature Lighting)
Closing of Subway by providing gate on seven entries and it can be closed
during off peak hours so as to avoid no gap of Subway
Two watch man may be provided so as to maintain the cleanness and avoid
crimes in subway for two shifts
Shops are provided on both sides of tunnel to increase the utility of subway.

CAPACITY ANALYSIS:
Capacity Analysis of Proposed Subway:
Evaluation of the capacity of the proposed subway is done with the
basic promise of the pedestrians. The traffic projection for 20 years was
done.and width of stair case in the measurement used
