4. Assignment
Task-1 understanding self-managed learning can enhance
lifelong development
(1.1)Evaluating the approaches to self-managed learning
According to (Johns, 2012), for every individual to build their own place and to sustain in any
organizations, it is very much essential to develop their skills on a regular basis so that they can
be able to grasp opportunities that revolve around them. By developing personal and professional
skills, one can overcome various challenges that arise between their paths of glory.Personal
development is a procedure through which an individual enhance their skills, identity, talent,
quality of life, realize their dreams and aspirations and also attain their various goals of their life
(Cassidy, 2006.). Further, it includes achievement of knowledge and skills in order to conduct
their work and ensure career growth over a time period (Ottewill, 2002).

Different approaches to self-managed learning

The personal skill plays a fundamental role to any individual and it also direct them in attaining
the success in their professional or student life. Further, it is beneficial for the organization, as it
assists in attaining the progress to the organizations. It is a never ending procedure, which leads
to the attainment of organizational and personal goals. In order to self-manage the learning
procedure, various key skills or approaches are required which not only helps in executing works
to meet organizational goals but at the same time help in becoming successful in their life
(Personal or Professional Development Plans, 2012). These basic approaches include effective
communication skills, interpersonal skills, proper management of time and available resources
and also have an effective problem solving attitude.
In addition to these, to increase knowledge on various issues regarding organization or outer
world different methods of learning can be incorporated. These are seminar and conferences
which provide handsome knowledge to the listeners from various delegates of different field and
background. This helps in enhancing the thinking power of individual too (Professional and
Personal Development, 2013). Furthermore, social network site can aid in increasing personal
skills and knowledge by interacting with their friends and family member. They are also able to
gain information regarding various activities that are taking place all around the World with this.
Apart from this, internet act as an ocean of information and one can get all sorts of information
and knowledge from the internet and enhance their knowledge and IQ. These will ultimately help
in becoming more competitive in the society and may leads to success for the individuals.

(1.2)Ways for Encouraging Lifelong Learning in Personal and

Professional Context
Lifelong learning is a term assign to the continuous, self-motivated and voluntary search of
information and knowledge for both professional and personal cause. This attribute of lifelong
learning not only improves social enclosure, personal growth and dynamic citizenship but it also
enhances the competency and employability skills of an individual (Eisele and et.al., 2013). In
order to gain lifelong learning, personal assessment of individual is required along with selfreflective learning.

Personal Assessment: According to (Andersson, 2012), it is a process of observing oneself with

a motive to evaluate aspects, which are essential to ones identity. This involves analysis on the
basis of ones interests, values, skill, talents, personality and other similar factors. Selfassessment can be done with the help of SWOT analysis of any individual and this will also help
me in identifying the area of deviation from the desired one. With the help of self-assessing
through SWOT analysis, I can observe and point out my strength, which may help me in
attaining my goals or aspirations. Further, with this I can also identify my weakness, which may
become a probable barrier in my growth. In addition to this, by analyzing future opportunities
and threats, I can able to manage my skills. This will help me in lifelong learning for both
professional and personal life and from this I can maximize my knowledge.
Self-Reflective Learning: It is all about reviewing opinions, judging, personal understanding and
acting, which one is willing to grasp in their personality. Self-reflective learning assists in
gaining new and efficient skills in the organizations. This will develop personal skills of an
individual by effectively managing the roles and responsibility that is assigned to them in the
organizations By this methodology, I can able to learn various aspect of any specific situations
and this will help me in enhancing my skills and knowledge by assessing it on my level for
lifelong.
SWOT analysis: By evaluating personal SWOT this will help me with my professional learning
using other tools which are self-reflective learning and continuing professional development
(CPD). Self-reflective learning is about trying to review some opinions, judgments, personal
understanding and actions that you are willing to take in a proper way and be honest about it.
This will help me to link my professional development to practical issues that I have experienced
in my life either socially or academically.

(1.3)Benefits of self-managed learning to the individual and

organization
Self-managed learning has number of benefits for both individuals and for organization of which
that person belongs. It is all about taking initiative in order to gain something valuable in return.
Benefits from self-managed to learning to me are mentioned below:

Skills of working in a team will be gained that helps me in contributing up to my fullest

level in my team (Smith and et. al., 2007).

Presentation skill will be upgraded by continuously assessing my drawbacks and taking

corrective measure to overcome it.

Self-learning will ultimately help me in enhancing my communication skill, which will

assist me at the time of interview and group discussion.

Leadership skill can be gained by becoming class representative and taking various
responsibilities on my shoulders.

Apart from these, there are various benefits from self-learning to the organization that I will have
after accomplishing my course. These are described below:

Effective decision making skills of mine will help the company in minimizing their loss
or expenses and also assist in maximizing their profit sharing.

From my personal experience, I incorporate that remaining ethical in various situation is

the best methodology and this will be beneficial to the company also (Throop and
Castellucci, 2009).

Problem solving attitude will prevent company in landing from any problem.

Self-managed learning helps me to work along with flexibility. This will be beneficial for
the organizations and this will help in attaining their corporate goals.

In order to overcome my various weaknesses, I prepared a development plan so that I can

effectively work upon it. In order to enhance my presentation skill, I plan to participate in
various activities so that I can effectively manage and improve it. Further, to increase leadership
skill, I decided to take responsibility at various levels and also lead groups at the time of any
event. This will ultimately help in enhancing my leadership and intellectual skill. In addition to
these, I planned for better management of time. From all above, I will be majorly focusing on

developing leadership and presentation skill and I have already started taking initiatives in this
context. I am emphasizing much on this part only because from this I can be able to groom my
personality and capability too and this will ultimately help in meeting with other skills.

(2.4) Planning a personal and professional development based

on identified needs

Deadline and action for my personal development plan

My first personal need is to improve decision making skill. At first, I need to read more books to
gain the knowledge, and try to make the decision. Second need is teamwork skill. I am very
weak at teamwork. I always do works with individual. It is not a good way. So I need to improve
my teamwork skill. To improve teamwork skill, I need go on vacations with partners, work
together, listen others ideas, Join several clubs, and play team games, volunteer in public groups
during three to five months. And third is to get better my English 4 skills. I need to practice
writing, talking with foreigners, read more books and take some English courses within five
months. And the forth is to develop IT skill. This skill is very importance for me. I should
practice at home by watching online videos, talk with IT user within two to three months. And
the last skill is communication skill. If I necessitate my communication skill, I could do with
work in jobs which have to communicate a lot, attend events, read books about communication

and talk with many people within four months. By doing these ways, I can develop my personal
development.

Task-3 Be able to implement and continually review own

personal and professional development plan
(3.1) The processes and activities required to implement the
development plan
Learning style and strategies
According to Peter Honey and Alan Mumford (1992), Learning is perhaps the most important of
all the life skills, since the way in which people learn affects everything else. We live in the
postindustrial information age where data have a shorter shelf-life and where transformational
changes are less predictable and occur more rapidly than ever before. Clearly learning is the key
not just to thriving on all these changes.
Different learning styles

Visual learning style is able to found in people who can easily learn through reading or seeing
books, articles and others. Charts, images, memories, mind maps and colors are useful things for
recalling memories for the visual learners.
Auditory learning style can learn lessons and things through listening their own voice or other
peoples voice. They learn mostly from talk shows, discussion clubs, conferences and radios.
Most of musicians are auditory learners as they learn together with rhythms and tunes. Auditory
learners usually improve their skills from debates, conversations, hearing other peoples reading
or experiences.
Tactile learning style is one of the best learning things in reality. They can learn through
experiencing or doing things. They usually try to understand things by doing practical. They take
part in role plays, trips, volunteering activities and studying with others.

The Kolbs learning cycle theory consist four stages. They are:
Concentrate experience (Do)
Reflective observation (Observe)
1

Abstract conceptualisation (Think)

Active experimentation (Plan)
And then, there are four learning styles according to above Kolbs leaning stages. The styles are:
-

Assimilators: have ability to learn theories through listening presentations.

Convergers: have ability to learn concepts from practical through applications.
Accommodators: who takes experience from practical and work better.
Divergers: who learn better by observing through information.

Honey and Mumfords learning style can also evaluate our learning styles. There are four types
of learner:

Activists
Reflectors
Theorists
Pragmatists

Activists mean: As I believe in learning with passion and enthusiasm and I enjoy working and
learning because I feel that if someone want to become expert in his or her field that person
should enjoy working. I have the flexible personality which makes me more adaptable to
different situations.
Reflectors mean: I have the this thing in my personality that I like to observe things and analyse
them before coming to conclusion, I always believe in making decision on present past facts. So
I have identified that this style suits best for me and it gives me more opportunity to get more
information.

Theorists indicate: As it is in my habit that I am more punctual and active and so through this
style I can get more discipline and I can make my life more systematic. I like to solve problems
logically and with experience. This learning style makes me more understandable and it give me
better chance to learn.

Pragmatists mean: A person who enjoys working on real-life projects appreciate to people who
gives useful feedback and coaching. They are essentially practical and they challenge to the
problems. The processes and activities required to implement the development plan

(3.2) Document development activities as planned

In above table, one of the skills that I want to improve is IT skill. I really want to improve my IT
skill. Because it is very important for me. And then, I think I can help to get a good career. I use
the internet because it provides up-to-date data from many sources. There is also much social
software for education increasing and I can get a lot of knowledge from them. Moreover, the
skills that I want to improve are decision making skill, teamwork skill, English 4 skills, IT skill
and communication skill. These are all my goals.
And then, I also want to describe about my learning styles. My learning style seems like visual
learner. So, I can learn better by seeing things in present. Moreover, my learning style through
Kolbs learning style is accommodating. So, I usually like to work practically especially with
hand-on experiences. I collect experience by doing myself and try to improve the next time. By
doing this ways, I can reach my goal.
According the learning style questionnaire by Honey and Mumford, I seem to a reflector. So, I
usually learn from activities by standing back to think and review. Whenever I make decisions I

tend to think my experiences and use them for a better decision. Doing this way I think, one day
I will achieve my goals.

(3.3) Reflect critically on own learning against original aims

and objectives set in the development plan
Most important personal skill is the time management. In my point of view time management
holds the key for personal success and also professional success. Nowadays, it is a famous
saying time is money so without time management no one can progress in his or her life no
matter how intelligent or knowledgeable he or she is. Time management skill is very essential for
anyone who has the desire to be at the top of its field. As I am new in this country and I am
already going through lots of task in my life. Presently being attended by English Class and at
the same I want to attend LCCI courses, so it was really difficult for me to manage my time
properly and I could not do certain things at time and with efficiency. But with the time
management skill I learned quickly how to do things properly, more efficiently in less time. As
my studies are most important part of my life at the moment so I made a personal schedule for
my whole week, in my personal schedule I have written down each and every task which is
needed to be done in a day and given more priority to my study Through schedule I have
analysed which activities were taking my most time and which were less time taking because of
schedule my whole week is more systematic. Now most of targets are being achieved in less time
and pressure and more efficiently. It gives me more satisfaction in studies. Better time
management gives me better control not only my personal activities but also on my professional
targets. And it is also support me to get my aims and objectives.

Taks-4 Be able to demonstrate acquired interpersonal and

transferable skills
The interpersonal and transferable skills
(a)
A conflict has developed at a personal level between members of a team which are delivering an
important project for the business.
People have different viewpoints and, under the right set of circumstances, those differences
escalate to conflict. Conflict isn't necessarily a bad thing, though. Healthy and constructive
conflict is a component of high-functioning teams. Conflict arises from differences between
people; the same differences that often make diverse teams more effective than those made up of
people with similar experience. When people with varying viewpoints, experiences, skills, and
opinions are tasked with a project or challenge, the combined effort can far surpass what any

group of similar individual could achieve. Team members must be open to these differences and
not let them rise into full-blown disputes.
In this conflict, at first all the member should need to agree to communicate.
The most important thing throughout the resolution process is for everyone to keep
communications open. The people involved need to talk about the issue and discuss their strong
feelings. Active listening is essential here, because to move on you need to really understand
where the other person is coming from.
The second way is to analyze in smaller groups Break the team into smaller groups, separating
people who are in alliance. In these smaller groups, analyze and dissect each position, and the
associated facts, assumptions and beliefs. Which facts and assumptions are true? Which are the
more important to the outcome? Is there additional, objective information that needs to be
brought into the discussion to clarify points of uncertainly or contention? Is additional analysis or
evaluation required?
As well as being able to handle conflict when it arises, teams need to develop ways of preventing
conflict from becoming damaging. Team members can learn skills and behavior to help this.
Here are some of the key ones to work on:
Dealing with conflict immediately avoid the temptation to ignore it.
Being open if people have issues, they need to be expressed immediately and not
allowed to fester.
Practicing clear communication articulate thoughts and ideas clearly.
Practicing active listening paraphrasing, clarifying, questioning.
Practicing identifying assumptions asking "why" on a regular basis.
Not letting conflict get personal stick to facts and issues, not personalities.
Focusing on actionable solutions don't belabor what can't be changed.
1

Encouraging different points of view insist on honest dialogue and expressing feelings.
Not looking for blame encourage ownership of the problem and solution.
Demonstrating respects if the situation escalates, take a break and wait for emotions to
subside.
Keeping team issues within the team talking outside allows conflict to build and fester,
without being dealt with directly.

(b)
A manager is concerned about the poor time keeping of a junior manager who directly reports to
her. This is both arrival times and the late delivery of completed work.
In this type of conflict, as a manager, I will do face-to-face communication methods. When I
meet him, I should need to ask the individual questions such as:
He lives 15-minutes walk away from the office
He has no kids, no ride-shares or public transport to deal with, etc.
He lives with his girlfriend who goes to work at 7am every morning, so she's not holding
him up
And I should express my problems with his lateness.
I'm sat at my desk at 9am waiting to ask him questions with no idea what time he'll be
there
There could be an issue that needs his immediate attention at 9am. Unlikely, but there
could be.
If one of those issues arose, and my boss phoned to me to ask what was going on, telling
him the staff member responsible hasn't turned up for work yet sets a bad precedent for
my management of the team.
It makes other members of the team feel they can turn up late as well, which only
amplifies the above issues

(c)
There is poor liaison between the front and back offices of the organization and this is leading to
poor customer services, with billing and customer complaints.
I think, the problem of poor liaison between the front and back offices of the organization is the
distance between the front and back offices. The two offices are away from each other, they are
also lack of communication with each other. Another possible problem of communication
between departments is lack of group working skill. There are some delays in sharing
information as some of the employees dont have enough experience and technical skill. Also,
because of the laziness of some employees, some of the data files are not transferred to the
respective department in time. As half of the employees have off day during weekends, the
inexperienced employees have to wait for them if they dont work how to do. To solve this
problem, I made pairs to work together and to switch partner every month in order to gain
relationship between the employees.

Vision and Mission statement describes what the company is providing to society?

The motivation is very important for all employees to achieve the organization objectives. So as
to complete tasks and to get the organization objectives their allocated jobs efficiency and
effectively could be done only when they are motivated. Here are the motivation theories to
assess the workers needs and what are the things that will motivate them to do work and to
achieve the organization objectives.

And we used monetary and non-monetary motivation in our organization. The two motivation
methods help the organization to gain the goals and objectives.

In our team, we give monetary motivation such as bonus, promotion, financial incentive and
profit sharing. Non-monetary motivations include such as recognition, giving vacation trips,
flexibility.

We also used 360 degree feedback to develop the activities of team members. 360 degree
consists of performance data generated from a number of sources, who can include the person to
whom the individual being assessed reports, people who report to whom, peers and internal and
external. 360 degree feedback is mainly used for development program.
1

We want to get organization objectives; we need to monitor our team member performance.
Performance appraisal is very useful to monitor the performance.

Performance appraisal is essential to monitor the team members performance. If we use this
appraisal in our business, it is very easy to achieve the organization objectives.

Team building mean, team members and leaders have to work together to achieve organizational
objectives.
The following power point is the nature of teamwork.

A team is a small group of people who work actively together to achieve the organizational
objectives.

Working as a team, the team members should avoid the above behaviors. By avoiding those
behaviors, team can do work more effectively and efficiently and easy to achieve the
organisaiton objectives.

Task-5
Learning styles were established by Peter Honey and Alan Mumford, based upon the work of
Kolb, and they recognized four distinct learning styles or preferences: Activist, Theorist;
Pragmatist and Reflector. There are four styles suggested for Honey and Mumford
1. Activist- Activists include themselves completely and without bias in new experiences.
They enjoy the here and now, and are pleased to be led by instant experiences. They are
open-minded, not skeptical, and this tends to make them enthusiastic about anything new.
They tend to act first and reflect the consequences afterwards. Their days are packed with
activity.
2. Theorist- Theorists adapt and incorporate observations into composite but logically sound
theories. They think difficulties through in a vertical, step-by-step logical way. They
integrate dissimilar facts into coherent theories. They tend to be perfectionists who won't
rest relaxed until things are tidy and fit into a rational scheme. They like to examines and
synthesize. They are keen on basic assumptions, principles, theories models and systems
thinking. Their philosophy prizes rationality and logic. "If its logical its good."
3. Pragmatist- Pragmatists are strong on annoying out ideas, theories and techniques to see
if they work in exercise. They absolutely search out new ideas and take the first
opportunity to trial with applications. They are the sort of people who return from courses
brimming with new ideas that they want to try out in practice. They like to get on with
things and act quickly and confidently on ideas that attract them. They tend to be annoyed
with ruminating and open-ended discussions. They are essentially practical, down to earth
people who like creation practical decisions and solving problems. They reply to
problems and chances 'as a challenge'. Their philosophy is "There is always a better way"
and "If it works its good".
4. Reflector- Reflectors similar to stand back to consider involvements and observe them

from many diverse perspectives. They collect data, both first hand and from others, and
favor to think about it methodically before coming to a conclusion. The thorough
collection and analysis of data about experiences and events is what counts so they tend
to delay reaching conclusive conclusions for as long as possible.

When considering the personal and professional development plan are based on the persons
needs. There is such kind of needs necessity for the personal and development plan such as
1. The personal and the professional development helps to demonstrate and encourage
reflective training and the development needs recognized in appraisal should be attended
to through these processes. Therefore identify the training is the need of the personal and
the professional development plan too
2. The number of needs does not essentially correlate with the effort obligatory by the
learner. Therefore the duty is identified through the personal and the professional
development plan
3. Defining the factors that the appraise feels have an important positive and negative
inspiration on motivation is a significant part of easing appropriate commitment to
personal and professional development. So, this need has to identify the personal and the
professional development too.
4. Personal and professional development which is identified the persons requirement,
below the figure is illustrating the needs of the person.

5. Recommendation
As a recommendation, I discussed personal development plan and certain goals are set which
needed to be achieving through personal development plan. In this assignment I also described a
table for future development plan is made and in this table all the future targets and their
importance is shown. Moreover, I also explained the personal skills which needed to be
improved are identified and certain actions are set to be taken to achieve this personal
development plan.

6. Conclusion
Hence, from this assignment it can be concluded that personality development pays a crucial role
in enhancing the employability skills and gaining an edge over other individuals. By effectively
managing various elements that are related to personality i.e. attitude, beliefs, thinking power,
leadership skills, and various other key skills and talents, all can be able to gain my personal and
professional development.
