Physical Education A3-1: Students will respond to a variety of stimuli to create locomotor
sequences.

sequences.
Physical Education C3-1: Students will describe and demonstrate respectful communication
skills appropriate to context.
Physical Education C3-3: Students will identify and demonstrate etiquette and fair play.
Physical Education C3-5: Students will display a willingness to share ideas, space and
equipment when participating cooperatively with others.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. Use locomotor and nonlocomotor movements and combine those movements into
sequences. (Applying/Evaluating)
2. Demonstrate respectful communication, etiquette, fair play, and cooperation. (Applying)

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

Mats.
Pylons.
Hoola Hoops.
Dodgeballs.

PREPARATION AND LOGISTICAL CONSIDERATIONS


Have twelve mats (i.e. two mats for each team) set up at one end of the gym for the Raft
Game. **7:30AM**
Have pylons and hoola hoops for obstacles for the Raft Game (may not be needed).
Have six dodgeballs for Popcorn Ball.

PROCEDURE
Introduction
Explain Up, Down, Stop, Go, the warm-up activity, to students.
- On Go: Students must stop and stay still.
- On Stop: Students must move around the gym, either walking or
skipping.
- On Up: Students must sit or lay down.
- On Down: Students must stretch up to the ceiling.
Play Up, Down, Stop, Go.
After approximately four minutes, gather students back together to explain the
Raft Game.

Explain the Raft Game to students. While I am


explaining the game, have Erin and Nikki setting up the
mats.
- Each group will have two mats.
- Students must work together to get from one end of the
gym to the other without touching the gym floor.
- If anyone touches the gym floor, their team will be sent
back to the starting point.
- Remind students to be respectful and mindful of their
peers (e.g. no pushing, shoving, kicking, etc.).
Have the class form groups of ten. Once students are in
their groups, send them to the starting point.
Play the Raft Game.
If there is time and/or students find the game too easy, a
variety of obstacles can be added that teams need to avoid.
After approximately twelve minutes, gather students back
together to explain Popcorn Ball.
Conclusion

Explain Popcorn Ball, the cool-down activity, to students.


- Each group of students will stand in a circle facing inwards.
- One dodgeball will be given to each group. Students must call out the
receivers name and roll the dodgeball to them.
- As the game progresses, add more dodgeballs into play.
Play Popcorn Ball.

Assessment
Students will be formatively assessed for Physical Education during the warm-up activity,
Raft Game, and cool-down activity.
