Questions:
Which year is warmer in the South Beaufort Sea region, 1995 or 2005?
How many degrees warmer?
2005 was a warmer year by 2.5 degrees Kelvin

Which year has more snow-ice amount in the same region? By how
much?
1995 has more snow-ice amount by 16%
Using the line plots, examine the seasonal oscillations of the variables.
Do you see any trends in the line plots?
In the surface area temperature there is always a peak in temperature
during June and a minimum around Demember. There are also local
minima and maxima, occasionally, during the increase and decrease
where the temperature has a small peak and valley. In the Snow and
Ice Percentage there is 100% ice coverage for the majority of the
years. There are also the lowest percentages around September. There
are also oscillations in how low the percentage goes during these
warm periods.
Write a paragraph describing your findings and conclusions using the
data results.
There has been an increase in the surface temperature in this part of
the world. Because of this increase much of the ice has melted or has
at least reduce the amount of time that is spent with 100% ice. When
there isnt ice to cool the air the surface temperature increase. If we
continue to warm our Earth the way we have been we wont have any
ice in a few years. Since the percentage of ice is dropping the human
race needs to work to reduce the warming of the Earth.
Would you expect to see any impact on the habitat and migration of
polar bears based on your conclusions?
Since there isnt ice or snow for the Polar Bears to live on they would
end up migrating to the more Northern (or southern in the southern
hemisphere). If this trend of cooling continues, the Polar Bears will
either die out or have to adapt to not living in the snow/ice.
How will the changes that you study affect the people of Northern
Alaska and Western Canada? What other information or data would
help you answer this question?
Much of the economies in Northern Alaska and Western Canada rely on
their environment. When these changes occur, it affects what is able to
be grown and produced. I would need to investigate the exact exports
and things produced in these areas. I would also need to find out what
influences the production of these products. With this information I

would be able to tell the effects of these changes in Northern Alaska

and Western Canada.
Do you think there is a global change trend or just a local random
variation? Explain your answer. What other information or data would
help you answer this question?
I dont think this is a local random variable. This shows a trend that
spans over 10 years. The association between the two variables shows
that this could be seen in other areas. Other information that would
help answer this would be to look at the change in 1995-2005 in other
climate zones.
