Pneumococcal Vaccine
The pneumococcal infection is caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria. The bacteria can
cause serious and life-threatening infections
such as meningitis, infections of the blood or of
the lungs.
Pneumococcal Polysaccharide vaccine is available for those who qualify, particularly seniors
65 years and older. It is also provided free to
those with certain chronic diseases as well as
those who have an alcohol dependency, are
homeless or use illicit drugs.

Red Cross Equipments New Home

The Canadian Red Cross Health Equipment Loan
Program (HELP) in Kaslo has moved to a new,
larger and brighter location! Clients recovering
from surgery or recent injury looking to borrow
health equipment such as mobility and bathing
aids can now go to 409 Cross Street (former dental office, rear entrance). The phone number to
make an appointment to borrow or return equipment remains unchanged at 250-353-2844.
Kaslos HELP has loaned equipment to community members since early 2000. Since then, it has
steadily grown from a room shared with the optometrist, to the basement of the Victorian Community Health Centre, to its present location at
409 Cross Street.
Before the opening of the Kaslo HELP site, clients had to travel to Nelson to borrow equipment. The local health care staff had managed
the service in the past, but now, trained volunteers completely run the service and dedicate
their time to safely clean, repair and distribute
equipment to clients.
HELP is a short-term loan program funded by
donations and the support of Interior Health.
Clients looking to borrow equipment require a
referral form from a health care provider, which

Craniosacral work improves alignment, mobility and whole body health. Pain can be caused
by tension and restrictions in the body resulting from injuries, compensation and stress.
When the body experiences more than it can
deal with, it develops patterns of compensation which intensify the pain related with the
original condition or injury. The accumulation of
these patterns and compensations inhibit the
bodys natural, self-correcting healing ability.
Craniosacral work influences the cranium, vertebrae, sacrum, the musculoskeletal system, the
central nervous system, the organs, the connective tissues, the fluids and the energy systems of
the body. Light touch is used to assess patterns
in the body that limit movement and cause pain
and to then initiate a healing response. Clients
may experience muscle releases, physical shifts

joint (TMJ) dysfunction, acute and chronic pain,

properly disposing of tissues.
Influenza can be particularly severe for some people
such as older adults, people with chronic health conditions and babies. If your symptoms are getting worse or
you are not recovering, call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 for
medical advice. This free service will connect you with
a healthcare professional who can provide advice about
how to manage your health concerns or those of your
loved ones. Alternatively, you may choose to call or visit
your doctor or go to a walk-in clinic.
If your symptoms become severe, go to the emergency
department of the nearest healthcare facility right away.

are being treated with increasingly harsh de-icing chemicals that damage the exterior and eventually compromise
the structural integrity of your car. Rust protection from
