The Balangay (formerly synonymous

with Butuan boat)[1] is a plank boat

adjoined by a carved-out plank edged
through pins and dowels. It was first
mentioned in the 16th Century in the
Chronicles of Pigafetta, and is known
as the oldest watercraft found in the
Philippines.
The balangay was the first wooden
watercraft excavated in Southeast
Asia and is evidence of early Filipino
craftsmanship and their seamanship skills during pre-colonial times. The
Balanghai Festival is also a celebration in Butuan, Agusan del Norte to
commemorate the coming of the early migrants that settled the Philippines,
on board the Balangay boats.[2] When the first Spaniards arrived in the 16th
century, they found the Filipinos living in well-organized independent villages
called barangays. The name barangay originated from balangay, the
Austronesian word for "sailboat"
The malong is a traditional "tube skirt" made of
handwoven or machine-made multi-colored cotton
cloth, bearing a variety of geometric or okir designs.
The malong is directly akin to the sarong worn by
peoples in other parts of Maritime Southeast Asia
(Malaysia, Brunei, East Timor and Indonesia), and is
the etymological cognate of the Polynesian 'malo'
(loin cloth). The malong is traditionally used as a
garment by numerous tribes in the Southern
Philippines and the Sulu Archipelago and was
historically worn throughout the archipelago by
lowland maritime groups.

elaborate leaf and vine pattern) and folk motifs that can be usually found in
Maranao and Muslim-influenced artwork, especially in the southern
Philippines, and in some parts of Southeast Asia.

A torogan is no ordinary home Specially to
a regular Maranaw family because it was a
symbol of high social status. Such a
residence was once a home to a sultan or
Datu
in
the
Maranaw
community.
Nowadays, concrete houses are found all over Maranaw communities, but
there remain torogans a hundred years old. The best-known are torogans in
Dayawan, Marawi City and some others located around Lake Lanao.
The Sarimanok is a legendary bird of the Maranao
people who originate from Mindanao, a major island
in the Philippines. It comes from the words "sari" and
"manok." "Sari" means cloth or garment, which is
generally of assorted colors.[1] manok means
"chicken".
The Yakan Tribe from Basilan are known to be
one of the finest weavers in the county. The art
of hand-loom runs deep in the heritage and
culture of the Yakans.

T'nalak is a traditional cloth found in Mindanao

island made by a group of people in Lake Sebu,
South Cotabato called T'bolis, Tboli people. This
traditional cloth is hand-woven made of Abaca
fibers which traditionally has three primary
colors, red, black and the original color of the
Abaca leaves. The colorant of the materials are
naturally dyed boiled in with bark, roots and
leaves of plants. It is an heritage and believed that the intricate and creative
patterns of the Tinalak was seen on their dreams and made it on to work.

They can't create a design of the Tinalak if they haven't dreamed of it. They
are sometimes called the "Dream Weavers".
Pangalay (also known as Daling-Daling or Mengalai in
Sabah) is the traditional fingernail dance of the Tausg
people of the Sulu Archipelago and Sabah.[1] The dance
also means offering from its Sanskrit origin pangalay.Mangalay which also means dance is very similar to
classical Balinese and Thai dances.
