Hi Im Marcy with the BBC World News for Children. Its Tuesday 23rd
of October.
Coming up a strange dinosaur fossil found in China.
But first a car that could go 1000 miles an hour is going to be built by
a British team. Its called the Bloodhound and its powered by a rocket
bolted to a Eurofighter jet engine. Itll be able to cover the length of 4
football pitches every second. Project leader Richard Noble told the
BBC the car would have to put up with extreme physical stress.
Were dealing with a car which has got some 40,000 pounds of
thrust, the bodywork will have to stand loads of 12 tons per square
meter, the wheels are going to go round at over 10,000 rpm. This is
the ultimate, absolute ultimate engineering project.
Next to Zimbabwe, in Southern Africa. Food shortages there are
getting much worse. Farmers are suffering because of political and
financial problems in the country. Villages in the Mashonaland West
area say they are starving and unable to feed their children, theyre
trying to survive by eating wild fruit and roots now. Many dont have
their own seeds, fertilizer or fuel.
Scientists in America say they found out how to wipe out specific bad
memories. In experiments with mice, researchers were able to cut out
memories without damaging the rodents brains. The experts think the
technique could be used to help people get over traumatic events like
bad accidents. But one of the scientists told the BBC that even horrid
memories do have a purpose: We learn quick lessons from these
memories to avoid making the same type of mistakes, and also help
us to adapt to the future situations. And that is why nature wants to
ensure bad memories are not easily forgot
In Pakistan two suspected American missiles have hit a Muslim
religious school, called a madrasah. At least 8 students died in the
blast in the North West of the country. The US hasnt said if they fired
the missiles. Some madrasahs in Pakistan have been accused of
promoting violence against the American people.
Football now, and in the European Champions league John Terry must
be pleased after he did this: John Terry rises and scores! John Terry
scores for Chelsea. The deadlock is broken The Chelsea captain
scored his first goal for his team since March to help them beat Italys
Roma one-nil. Meanwhile Liverpool threw away a victory in Madrid.
Robbie Keane put them one up against Atltico but the Portuguese
winger Simao equalized later on.
Todays question is one for all you footie fans. We want to know: how
many minutes are in a football match? Well have the answer for you
tomorrow. Yesterday we asked: What is the capital of Japan? And the
answer is Tokyo.
