OBJECTIVE
To determine the degree of difference between half compress concrete
and fully compressed concrete density.
THEORY
APPARATUS
2. Weighing machine
3. Steel rod
4. Scoop
PROCEDURE
1. Clean thoroughly inner surface of hoppers to reduce friction
2. Each hopper has hinged door (trap door) at the bottom.make sure
that this door is close before commencing the test.
3. Fill up the upper hopper wuth concrete to the brim
4. Release the door to let thr concrte falls into the lower hopper
5. Release the door of the second hopper to let the concrete falls into
the cylinder
6. Cut of excess concrete from the top of the cylinder by sliding it with
two floats
7. Determine the net weight of the concrete.this weight is known as
weight of partially compacted concrete.(W s)
8. Empty the cylinder and refill it with the concrete from the same
sample in three layers.tamp each layer 25 times with the standard
steel rod.
9. Level off the top surface of the cylinder and weight it to the nearest
10 mg.this weight is known as weight fully compacted
concrete(WP)
10.
Calculate the compacting factor of concrete :
Weight of the partially compacted concrete
Weight of fully compacted concrete
QUESTION
1. What will happen to concrete mixture if the proportion contains:
i. More aggregates:
Concrete will be weak and easy to break.
ii. Low water or cement ratio:
Low water cement ratio impacts all of the desired
properties of concrete listed in the desired properties of
concrete section.
iii. More cement:
Easy to break because the ability of the conrete is weak
and brittle.
2. Why compacting factor test has to be done quickly after the
concrete is mixed?
To avoid the concrete from dry and to identify the density of
the concrete

DISCUSSION
For the normal range of concrete the compaction factor lies between (0.8
0.92 ) . This test is particularly useful for dryer mixes for which the
slump test is not satisfactory
