A game plan for the future

SHM Financial Groups Stan and
Lee Molotsky discuss important
options in their informative new book.
For more than 50 years, the SHM
Financial Group has crafted a sterling reputation in South Jersey for
providing sound financial advice,
with services that include wealth
protection, tax minimization and
retirement planning.
Its no surprise that the two men
most responsible for that success
founder, president and CEO Stanley
H. Molotsky, and his son Lee, the
managing partner of The Molotsky
Tax Advisory Group have become
known as great communicators.
Not only do they speak to their
clients in a pleasant manner, making complex issues easy to understand, but they hosted a weekly
radio show, The Molotsky Money
Hour, as well as a weekly television program, Molotsky on Money,
to further aid local residents with

their questions and concerns.

Released last year, their book
Exit Strategies for a Secure
Retirement details the important
concepts and options available for
people as they plan their financial
future in an ever-changing world.
The world is in a constant state
of flux, Stan Molotsky says. So
weve developed a plan that says
you really need exit strategies for
whatever kind of investments you
have, not only pre-retirement, but
obviously in retirement, when you
dont normally have any new money
coming in.
We talked about it for a while,
and we decided about two years
ago to sit down and put together our
thoughts and write this book. It
talks about the different things one
should be doing to prepare for a
multitude of different emergencies.
The book touches on a number of
topics, including the creation of an
income plan, new investment ideas
and tax strategies. Each chapter
ends with a helpful summary and
there are anecdotes featured
throughout to further emphasize
the points being made.
Those stories were from my
experiences, Lees experiences and
other peoples experiences in the
firm, Molotsky says. The more

people know and comprehend, the

easier it is for us to do what we do.
So that was absolutely our goal with
the book.
To learn more about financial
planning, Exit Strategies for a
Secure Retirement can be ordered
through Amazon or by calling the
SHM Financial Group. All proceeds
from the book will be donated to
special needs programming at the
Jewish Federation of Southern New
Jerseys Life & Learning Center on
1721 Springdale Road in Cherry
Hill. That program is important to
the Molotskys, as Stans grandson
Lees nephew is a special
needs child.
The book is in its second edition
and because of the demand, it is
now available on audio. More information can be found on their website. Were very happy with the
feedback, Molotsky says. Were
gratified with the comments from
people, that it breaks things down
and make them easy to understand. A lot of people have gotten
the book for their adult children,
which I think is a good thing.
SHM Financial Group has locations in Voorhees, Collingswood
and Lakehurst. They can be
reached at 1-800-MONEY SHM (1800-666-3974) or www.shmfinancial.com.

Life Line Screening

Life Line Screening will be at
Maranatha Christian Fellowship
(Moorestown) on Tuesday, Nov. 15
offering safe, painless, non-invasive
preventive health screenings that
are typically not a part of your routine physical.
Screening choices include
stroke/carotid artery, peripheral
arterial disease, atrial fibrillation
and abdominal aortic aneurysm. At
some locations, blood work is
offered to detect diabetes, COPD,
cholesterol and more. The screening tests are performed by experienced professional sonographers

using sophisticated Doppler ultrasound technology.

A board-certified physician registered in your state reviews all
results before they are sent to individual screening participants in
about 21 days. Our mission is to
make people aware of potentially
serious conditions that are difficult
to detect in routine check-ups.
A $10 discount is available at
www.lifelinescreening.com/community-partners OR call 1-888-6536450. There is no time like the
present to take action. Your health
is definitely worth it!

Open house for pre-need

cemetery planning is Nov. 5, 6
The Catholic Church recognizes
the many emotions that family
members experience when facing
the death of a loved one.
Surrounded by family and friends,
accompanied by the prayers and
sacraments of the Church, the
time of death can be a graced
moment when faith and family
bonds are strengthened.
With this foundational understanding, the Church encourages
communication among family
members well in advance of the
need to make funeral and cemetery arrangements.
Those with responsibility for
Catholic cemeteries uniformly
encourage all families to consider
the purchase of grave, crypt or
niche spaces well in advance of
need. Baptized Catholics and the
spouse and children of a baptized
Catholic can lie in rest at Jesus,
Bread of Life Catholic Cemetery.
This pre-planning will assure that
the time surrounding death is able
to be devoted to family members
supporting one another and proper

planning of the liturgical rites that

will celebrate the deceased movement to eternal life.
Contact with the cemetery
office will begin the flow of information about burial alternatives,
associated costs, and payment
options. Your diocesan cemetery
Jesus, Bread of Life Catholic
Cemetery stands ready to help
guide you through this process.
To further assist we invite you to
attend an Open House that we
will be having on Saturday, Nov. 5,
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday,
Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Staff
will be on hand to discuss the various options and answer and
questions you may have. Open
House discounts on all burial
options will be offered. See the ad
in this publication.
Please take the time to visit and
see our magnificent outdoor garden columbarium. For information
or help with questions, please

Morris Hall Meadows

Morris Hall Meadows at
Lawrenceville was conceived and
developed with innovative ideas
about engaging the mind, body
and spirit of our Elders with 24
hours skilled nursing level of care.
Following THE GREEN HOUSE
model developed by Dr. Bill
Thomas, we emphasize three core
values: a Meaningful Life,
Empowered Staff and a Real
Home. We focus on community,
compassion and comfort for every
individual, in an environment that
provides outstanding physical and
emotional support.
Morris Hall Meadows elders live
in actual homes offering more privacy and comfort than traditional
nursing home settings. Each of
the thoughtfully designed singlelevel homes has ten private bedand-bath suites overlooking our
beautifully landscaped grounds.

At the center of each home is a

spacious hearth room with a fireplace facing a comfortable patio,
a shared dining room, an open
kitchen, as well as a spa area and
a cozy library, which is accessible
to elders and their families at all
times.
Our goal is for each Morris Hall
Meadows elder to have a meaningful life with as much autonomy
over his or her activities as they
choose. Elders control their own
daily routines and rhythms for
waking, sleeping, meals, self-care
and alone time. Each has direct
involvement in his or her own care
plan, and all elders enjoy formal
and informal opportunities for
engagement inside and outside of
the home.
Elders health care, wellness
and social needs are supported
attentively by our multi-disciplinary

staff of professionals. Morris Hall

Meadows is staffed by a self-managed team of workers called
Shahbazim, who are present at all
times for the needs, care and
comfort of residents. They work in
concert with the clinical and support team to constantly provide
optimal care to each person in
residence.
This care team devotes themselves to knowing each individual
and their families with the aim of
providing the utmost care and
attention.
The Meadows is the newest
addition to Morris Hall/St.
Lawrence Inc. campus, which consists of St. Marys Assisted Living,
Grace Garden Memory Care
Assisted Living, St. Josephs
Skilled Nursing Center at Morris
Hall
and
St.
Lawrence
Rehabilitation Center.

Leon H. Matthews purchased
the business in 1970. Shortly
after, he added an addition to the
building to accommodate a selection room.
In 1981, H. Douglas Lewis purchased the funeral home. Mr.
Lewis changed the name to Lewis
Funeral Home.
Richard B. Lechner and his wife
Donna purchased the funeral
home in 1993 and changed the
name to Lechner Funeral Home. In
1997, the seating area of the
viewing room was expanded to
accommodate more funeral attendees.
Since 1936 Lechner Funeral
Home is proud of always having
maintained family ownership. We
have never been owned or run by
a corporation or by a group of larger funeral firms.

Monsignor Strenski established

St. Mary's Home for the Aged
based on his demonstrating concern for the elderly, on Kresson
Road in Cherry Hill. In 1940, he
invited three of the Little Sisters of
the Immaculate Conception from
Stara-Wies, Poland and so St.
Marys Catholic Home was founded.
Serving to nurture, support,
protect and enhance one's life
and spiritual growth, our dedicated staff has been providing compassionate, high quality care for
the elderly since 1952.
Our beautiful landscaped
grounds with a patio and gazebo
enable residents to socialize and
they are encouraged to spend as
much time as possible outdoors.
The gazebo sets the scene for a
variety of barbecues and picnics
where residents can admire the
landscaping, savor the delicious

food and enjoy the wonderful

fresh air. A spacious dining room
serves nutritious meals, all specially planned with extra attention
to individual tastes and dietary
requirements.
In 2016, the Diocese of
Camden transitioned St. Marys
Catholic Home, to focus on its primary spiritual objectives and all
the health-care resources under
its domain, are now part of the
Catholic Health Group, a portfolio
of 13 former Camden and
Philadelphia Diocesan healthcare
facilities.
St. Marys Rehabilitation and
Healthcare Center proudly continues the original tenets and traditions it was founded on: joyful
communion of quality nursing care
and simple human kindness.
Nurses, physicians, recreation
specialists, social workers and
therapists all work together to

implement a plan of care that fulfills each resident' s individual

requirements.
St.
Marys
Rehabilitation and Healthcare
Center is dedicated to the wellbeing of our patients. We continue
the quality tradition of care in all
our programs.
We are proud of our Catholicspirited focus, long-tenured, devoted staff and a deep level of concern for the folks we serve! It's
our calling.

from a total joint replacement,
Specialized Physical Therapy is

A dentist with care and compassion

Dr. David Young, a dentist and
oral implantologist in Kingston,
believes in treating his patients
with care, compassion, and most
importantly, education. Dr. Young
treats patients from their childhood years well into their senior
years. In his 28 years of practicing
in this area, the scope of dentistry
has changed tremendously. The
days of thinking you go to your
dentist for just a cleaning, filling,
or crown are long gone. Today,
dentistry is very comprehensive
so patients can be treated with
the latest in technology to maintain their natural teeth and in
some cases replace their natural
teeth with teeth that feel natural.
Continuing and advanced dental
education was always a focus for
Dr. Young. After restoring dental

implants for several years, in

2008 Dr. Young returned to the
academic environment, while still
maintaining his practice, to complete a Fellowship in oral implant
surgery. In 2014, Dr. Young
received his diplomate in implantology. This is the highest level
that a dentist can receive by a professional organization in oral
implantology.
To correctly and safely place
implants, one needs to understand the three dimensional
aspect of the surgical area. A CT
scan allows him to understand the
anatomy of the area and be able
to place the correct implant safely. For years, Dr. Young would refer
patients to a nearby radiology
imaging center for the CT scan,
but for the past two years he has
the CT scanning technology in his

office.
Dental implant treatment can
be from a single tooth replacement to an entire mouth of teeth.
In some cases only a few implants
can hold an entire arch of teeth.
Patients who even wear a denture
find that a few implants can make
those loose, ill fitting dentures
stable again.
With his advanced training, Dr.
Young can provide fully comprehensive treatment. Patients love
the convenience of having all of
their treatment performed at one
office.
Dr. Young is conveniently located at 4432 Route 27 in Kingston.

Hiring the best help at home

Homecare is rapidly becoming a
need for our seniors today.
Fellowship Senior Living recognizes the importance of not only
providing premiere senior living
services to residents who are currently living on our Basking Ridge
campus, but to the community at
large including the Princeton and
surrounding communities through
our Fellowship Helping Hands program.
When your loved one needs
help to remain safely and comfortably at home, finding the
right caregiver may be a daunting
task.
There are two ways to go when
looking for a caregiver to hire an
individual on your own or to work
with an agency such as Fellowship
Helping Hands.
It may seem more affordable to
hire a private individual. However,
have you considered liability insur-

ance to protect yourself in the

event of an accident in your
home? Creating a job description
and employment agreement for
your hired individual to sign?
Conducting an extensive criminal
background check or verifying if
your hired individual is legally entitled to work in the United States
and meets the state requirements
for hands-on care? Who will be
their replacement when they call
out sick, go on vacation, or if there
is a request for a change in caregiver? Suddenly the idea of hiring
a private caregiver may not be as
attractive as securing a licensed
agency.
Fellowship Helping Hands conducts all of the necessary preemployment screening and hiring
required for all of our state
Certified Home Health Aides and
Nurse Aides, including a criminal
background check, physical, PPD

and drug screen. Our Certified

Home Health Aids or Nurse Aides
have the necessary credentials,
receive ongoing training, attend
dementia and Alzheimers sensitivity training, and are supervised
by a Registered Nurse who conducts an initial assessment and
develops a Plan of Care for the
client.
Before hiring a private caregiver,
carefully consider the liability and
responsibility that will be required
of you.
Helping Hands is a part of
Fellowship Senior Living in
Basking Ridge, a full-service, notfor-profit provider of senior living
services for more than 20 years.
To discuss all of your home care
options, please contact Elizabeth
Fandel at Fellowship Helping
Hands at (908) 672-4499 and
ask for a complimentary in-home
assessment.

Are your estate planning documents up to date?

By, Rosemary D. Durkin, Esq.,
Shareholder, Stark & Stark
When my parents retired, my
father asked me to look over his
will and determine whether he
needed to make any changes to it.
I am the oldest of five children,
and he had signed his Will five
days before he and my mother
were even married, stating If I
marry Marie, I leave her everything.
As you might guess, I drafted a
new will for both my parents.
When is the last time you
reviewed your estate planning documents your will and powers of
attorney? With changes in family
and friend relationships, tax laws,
and finances, those documents
that you so conscientiously prepared many years ago may now be

out of date and not correctly state

your current wishes.
Perhaps you now have children,
or your children, who were minors
when you signed your will, are now
adults with children of their own.
Maybe you have saved your
money and invested wisely over
the years, but now may be concerned about federal or New
Jersey taxes.
Or regrettably, persons named
in your will, whether as a beneficiary or as the executor or trustee,
may be deceased or no longer
involved in your life.
My father may have been the
biggest procrastinator on this
issue, but many of us put off
estate planning, whether because
we do not like to think about death
or just because other items are on

the to-do list. But leaving an up-todate will as a clear road map can
be one of the best things that you
can do for your family.
Like a will, you should also have
in place a durable power of attorney designating persons to handle
your financial affairs, and a healthcare power of attorney designating
persons to make a medical decision for you, in the event of incapacity.
Oct. 1723 was National Estate
Planning Awareness Week. In celebration, why not find your will and
look it over. Maybe everything is
fine and nothing needs to be
changed. But if changes are necessary (or if you have never
signed a will or power of attorney),
contact an attorney to help you
bring everything up-to-date.

Why a Reverse Mortgage Today?

When World War II ended in
1945 and millions of young veterans came home, the years that
immediately followed produced
not only hundreds of thousands of
new young families and homes
funded by the GI Bill, but lots of
babies. These babies became the
generation best known as Baby
Boomers. According to U.S. population statistics, there are some
76 million Baby Boomers residing
in the U.S. today, and in 2011
many of those first Boomers
became eligible for retirement at
65.
For many along with retirement,
if they were lucky enough to be
able to afford it, came concerns
about finances. Many could not
even begin to think about retire-

ment because they were still paying off the mortgage that had
been refinanced over the years
when they were raising children,
paying for college, weddings and
putting new roofs and siding on
the homes they had hope would
be their retirement nest egg.
No longer do these folks have to
adhere to the old tradition of leaving a debt-free home for the kids
to fight over because the children
of this generation, who are now
40-plus-year-old adults, simply
want their parents to live with dignity and be able to enjoy the fruits
of a lifetime of providing for others.
So why a reverse mortgage?
First you do not have to own your
home free and clear to be eligible.

A reverse mortgage is a loan that

is available for homeowners over
the age of 62. The collateral for
the loan is the homes equity, and
the loan doesnt need to be repaid
until the homeowners sell the
home, the last surviving homeowner leaves the residence, or
until the homeowners pass away.
Reverse mortgages come with
options a lump sum may be
taken, calculated on the amount
of equity, value of the property and
the clients age. Or, an equity line
of credit, or monthly annuity or
some combination of all three may
be a better solution.

Looking ahead at Lions Gate

As our countrys 75 million
Baby Boomers move toward retirement, theyre changing the face of
senior living as we know it. From
physical fitness and health care to
lifestyle and entertainment, this
population is looking for a wellness-focused retirement lifestyle
that offers more choice and more
social, educational and recreational opportunities than that of their
parents. Theyre living longer, and
their expectations are much higher.
As a result of the desires of the
next generation, organizations
must be strategic in attracting new
residents. A couple of ways in
which the industry is adapting to
this incoming generation of
retirees is by enhancing the dining
experience, improving technology
and focusing on all aspects of
wellness. Lions Gates current
renovation project will offer current and future residents new

opportunities within all of these

areas.
Dining
Retirement communities are
working hard to offer attractive,
nutritious meals prepared by welltrained chefs. Eating healthy is a
priority; chefs are using fresh,
locally grown foods in the preparation of the meals, allowing for
regional favorites and seasonal
menus.
At Lions Gate, the dining room
is being enhanced and expanded,
and new venues are being added,
including a bistro and bar. Lions
Gate will also offer flexible anytime dining, allowing residents to
enjoy their meals at a time that
fits their unique schedule and
preferences.
These changes will give residents the choice they desire and
allow dining to become more than
just a meal but rather a social

highlight.
Technology
Todays seniors are embracing
technology in ways generations
before them have not. Because of
that, they expect state-of-the-art
technology and Wi-Fi. At Lions
Gate, technology and the Internet
help residents stay connected
with friends and family. Many residents use social media to enrich
their personal and social interactions.
A Renewed Zeal for Life
Todays retirees are looking for
healthier, more active lifestyles.
Wellness programs, including a
variety of fitness routines, are a
priority for residents. Lions Gate is
committed to anticipating the
needs and exceeding the expectations of future residents by offering the personalized services and
five-star amenities they desire.

Windsor Dermatology
Whats that spot on my skin? It is
a problem that many people have
faced, and some are unsure where
to go for help.
Most people are surprised to
learn they have skin cancer, claiming they haven't been in the sun for
years. It is not uncommon for people to have a 10-plus-year delay
from the time of exposure to the
development of skin cancer. This
common problem interferes with
the quality of life as spots can grow,
bleed, become infected and
spread.
Another common question is do
I really need to have this examined
and/or treated? The answer is
" yes" as untreated cancer will continue to grow and damage nearby
structures decreasing the quality of
life.
The board-certified dermatologists at Windsor Dermatology can

help match your treatment to your

unique medical situation. These
methods may vary from less invasive methods like cryotherapy,
which uses low temperatures for
the removal of abnormal tissue,
curettage, and desiccation, which
scraps the affected tissue off, or
minimally invasive methods such
as in office surgery to remove the
necessary tissue.
Dermatology requires a careful
evaluation of all aspects of the
patient and their medical history.
Thus, all individuals should be
screened at least once per year to
be sure they are not developing concerning issues. At Windsor
Dermatology, our team of board certified dermatologists are prepared
to address these issues for you and
your family members.

For some people, dementia and Alzheimers disease (AD) can make them feel

If you or someone you care about feels agitated, anxious or upset due
to dementia or AD, you both may be able to take part in this study.
To take part, the person with dementia or AD must:

have been diagnosed with probable Alzheimers disease (AD)
