AsIunderstand,
Membranetypeslab=onlyinplanestiffnessandnooutofplanestiffness
Platetypeslab=onlyoutofplanestiffnessandnoinplanestiffness
Shelltypeslab=bothinplaneandoutofplanestiffness
so,whenweassignslabtypeasmembrane,itonlytransfersforcestobeamssupportingit
anddoesnottakepartinloadtakingalongwithbeams,butwhenwegoforshellorplate
theyhaveoutofplanestiffnessaswell,sotheytakepartinloadcaringalongwithbeams
(asifTbeamisput)andsaggingmomentsinthebeamsgetreducedsignificantly.(WhichI
feelwillbetheactualonsitecondition).

Myquestionsareasfollows:
1.WhatIunderstandiscorrectornot?
2.TheotherthingisthatwhichisidealformodelingofRCCslabinEtabs?Andwhatcares
shouldbetakenindesignetcwhileassigninganyparticulartypetoslab?
3.Generallypeopledontuseshellorplateandusemembraneasitmatchesresultswith
Staadframeanalysis(withoutslabmodeling)withwhichtheyareusedto,butEtabsdoes
havefacilitytoanalysisbeamslabflooractingtogether(Tbeamanalysisnotdesign)then
canIusethatanddesignbeamsforreducedmomentsIgetbythisanalysis??

ForRCCshellelementassignmentisbestsinceitwilltakecareofbendingintwodirection
whichisfor2wayactionanditwillofadvantageousinlateralanalysis.

withStaadframeanalysis(withoutslabmodeling)withwhichtheyareusedto,but
Etabsdoeshavefacilitytoanalysisbeamslabflooractingtogether(Tbeamanalysis

analysis?

Byandlargeyouappeartobecorrectinunderstandingmembrane,shellandplateinetabs.
YouhaveraisedsomethingaboutTbeam.Tbeammaybeusefulforveryverysimple
structurevizwall,columnandbeams.Butinframestructurewithlateralloadnocomponent
willworkasTbeam.NowIhavealmostforgotaboutTbeam.IfeelyoucannotmodelT
beamforframeanalysiswithlateralload.Inframeanalysisdesignsupportmomentis
alwayshigherthanmidpointmoment.AmIcorrect?
