AIR WASHER

The APT Air Washer is a highly efficient conventional velocity air washer. The standard spray water density of 8.5
GPM per 1000 CFM of air produces a saturation efficiency of 95% at the standard face velocity of 550 FPM. The
standard design utilizes a double bank of opposed sprays with vertical 3 bend inlet baffle blades and vertical 6 bend
moisture eliminator blades, all housed in a 8'-0" long casing. Special designs are available, utilizing from one to four
banks of sprays. Medium & High velocity designs are also
available, allowing face velocities up to 1300 FPM.

AIR WASHER TANK

The tank provides the foundation for all the air washer
components. It is constructed of seam welded 12 ga. stainless
steel. The standard tank is 18" to 24" deep and is provided with
a flat bottom.
Tanks may be provided in other materials such as galvanized or
hot rolled steel up to 3/16" thick. Extensions of varying lengths
are offered for independently removable double suction screens,
weirs, special overflows or chilled water connections. Tank sides
are insulated with metal skinned foam insulation. Washers may be provided for installation on a concrete tank
provided by the owner.

AIR WASHER CASING

The casing is mounted with gaskets onto the air washer tank and forms the spray chamber. It is constructed of double
wall APT-O-LITE foam insulated panels with any combination of aluminum, galvanized steel or stainless steel skins.
A large marine type inspection door facilitates examination of the sprays and maintenance.
The casing may also be constructed of angle reinforced single wall galvanized or stainless steel. Interior marine lights
are available.

MIST ELIMINATOR AND INLET BAFFLE BLADES

Eliminators are located on the air-leaving end of the washer to remove entrained water droplets from the air. The
eliminator blades are of the 6 bend design and are spaced on 1 1/8" centers extending from below the water level of
the tank to the top of the washer. The blades are formed from 26 ga. stainless steel with interlocking stainless steel
retainer spacers.
Eliminators are also available in 26 ga. galvanized steel. Blades may be individually hinged to ease cleaning and
removal.
Inlet baffles are located on the air-entering end of the washer to insure uniform air distribution through the spray
chamber. The baffle blades are of the 3 bend design and are spaced on 3 3/8" centers extending from below the water
level to the top of the washer. The blades are formed from 26 ga. stainless steel with interlocking stainless steel
retainer spacers.
Inlet baffles are also available in 26 ga. galvanized steel and may be individually hinged to ease cleaning and removal.

SPRAY PIPING
The two opposed banks of sprays consist of an assembly of headers, standpipes, nipples, and spray nozzles all
drilled, tapped, and threaded to simplify installation and removal. The headers are fabricated from schedule 40
galvanized pipe and provided with a corrosion resistant coating.

The standpipes are also fabricated from schedule 40 galvanized pipe as well as the nipples. The spray nozzles are a
two piece design, brass centrifugal type with a large diameter body inlet and removable cap orifice for non-clogging
free flow. A slotted suction pipe is provided to prevent pump cavitation. The suction pipe is fabricated from Schedule
10-Stainless Steel.
The overflow and drain are also fabricated from Stainless Steel Pipe. The make-up includes a 1" quick-fill, a hose
connection and CLA-VAL float valve to set the water level.

of water not evaporated in the air.

The water for the spray nozzles are recirculated by a pump.
A tempering heater is usually installed before the washer. A reheating battery after.
