Learning Outcomes
Learning outcome 1b requires for the student to: Revise and edit to meet conventions of
standard
English. Learning outcome 1d requires for the student to: Reflect upon and explain
the appropriateness of their choices for the rhetorical situation and utilize feedback that
addresses both revision and editing.
This past year was a year full of different phenomenons. Hairstyles,
fashion, games, words, saying and more. Most likely the things everyone
uses are now known as basic. There is this one this one thing social
media that you can say is basic but that everyone loves.though that still
havent became basic to us. Snapchat.

People all over America use

snapchat, even the most famous perso Snapchat. People all over America
use snapchat, even the most famous person you know would have
snapchat. Its just something you quit cant get over.
This edit shows edits on rhetorical elements. I Changed up the sentences in this paragraph to add
pathos. The reader wants to know how snapchat is all of a sudden a new phenomenon. I also
edited that part and took out the basic sentence after I sat with peers reviewing my paper. They
said that I shouldnt say it is basic because most likely people dont want something that is
basic.

Still, if you look to your left and your right, people are using snapchat.
Honestly the only ones that complain about it are parents. But what kind
of parent doesnt complain about social media? Nobody else has a
problem with it. Teenagers love snapchat. You can take pictures, talk to y
Now whenever you are having a good time with your friends people dont say
hey let me post a status about what Im doing, people say let me show the
world what Im doing right now. People dont say let me see what they posted as
a status, they would go straight to snapchat to see what the world and all of your
friends are up to. Snapchat is the new behind the scenes of our lives and we love
it. our friends and even catch up on what others are doing. Why wouldnt
someone want to see what their artist is doing when they arent on stage?
Snapchat is on the come up and it has became big in the lives of this generation.

This edit shows standard english edits and just also basic edits on the paper. At this point
in my essay the paragraphs werent flowing together. Sitting with peers in class after a
workshop made me realized that I should change up the order and move one paragraph as

my counter argument. I changed up the paragraphs and also added a few other
transitional paragraph that I believe went well with my paper.

Learning outcome 1e requires for the student to: Research, synthesize, analyze, critique,
explain, argue, and explore in a variety of writing assignments
In all of my essay in Writing 104 I have shown that I have either researched, synthesized,
analyzed, critiqued, explained, argued, and explored. In my investigative report I showed how I
explored the topic of self-esteem and analyzed what it did to teens and how it can make an
impact in their lives. I also synthesized the different causes of a low self-esteem. Throughout my
my profile essay I explained and explores the life of Julia Feliz. In order to do that I had to
interview her and research more about her life and who she was. In my college tuition paper I
argued that the college tuition was way too high and is not affordable. My paper about snapchat
was a whole paper critiquing snapchat and exploring it and how teenagers see it.
Having a low self-esteem sometimes causes tenagers to make bad
decisions such as self harm, eating disorders, smoking and drinking. Yes,
smoking and drinking is something even teenagers with a high self esteem
would do, but they usually dont to it as a remedy to their internal feelings.
They do it for other reasons. However, 75% of teens do such activities and
they deal with having a low self-esteem (Do Something Org). When a
teens get to this point, it becomes problem. Its not okay for teenagers to
feel like self harm and negative activities like these are a way out of it.

Unlike the usual teenager, Julia didnt party as much.

Overcoming others expectations was something that came naturally to
her. One couldn't be fooled by her luscious hair and her curvy body. Julia
walked with fashion and danced with joy with much pride. She was that
pretty school girl yet highly intelligent and passionate in her studies.
Anything below an A was unacceptable for her. Her father taught her to
give the best of anything she gave. Being tough, with high expectations,
Julias father was strict on education.
The price to attend college and have an education is beyond most
peoples financial reach. Over the last 30 years, tuition has increased
1,120 percent (20 Tuition-Free Colleges), which means college just has
been getting more and more expensive as the years go by. According to
College Board, the average yearly tuition for a public college is $8,893 for
instate and $22,203 for out of state. College Board also states that the
yearly tuition for private colleges is $15,130 - $30,094 on average (20
Tuition-Free Colleges). Calculating the four years of college with those
prices, college is beyond expensive for a family simply wanting a
successful future and an education.
Teenagers love snapchat and dont see much wrong with it. Its
fun to play with filters and see how you can turn your face into an angel or
see how you look like with no nose, or maybe even with a beard. Its
something you can laugh about with your friends. Make videos in slow

motion or speed it up. Or you can feel yourself and use a flower crown,
catfish people and use the filter that takes all of your flaws away. Its
something to play around with and send to your friends.

Learning outcome 2a requires for the student to: Identify where support is needed for
their claims.
With my critical analysis, my proposal, and my investigative report I had many points
back up my claim with some evidence. With my critical analysis paper I wrote about snapchat
so to prove that it is a great phenomenon I went on blogs researched on snapchat to find evidence
on how big it is. I also used personal evidence to support my claim that teenagers love snapchat.
With my counter argument in that paper I went on the app store to find evidence on what people
think about snapchat. For my proposal, my partner and I searched up statistics on the prices of
colleges now and before. We found evidence that proved that the college prices are higher than
before are now not affordable. My investigative essay also shows proof that on how many
teenagers goes through struggles with their self esteem.
According to the Do Something Organization, Over 70% of girls ages 15 to 17 avoid
normal daily activities...when they feel bad about their looks. Which means that almost all girls
and maybe boys at some point feel bad about their looks and look down upon themselves.

To the point where 150 million people actively use it and go on
snapchat everyday. Thats 10 million more than twitter and 50 million
more

than

instagram (Kastrenakes, Jacob)(Facebook Newsroom).

Snapchat has become one of the most used social media.

Learning outcome 2d requires for the student to: Produce an Investigative Report
targeted to a specific audience who needs the information
My investigative essay was on the topic of self-esteem. The point of the investigative
essay is to educate teenagers on self-esteem. I touch upon areas like what a low self-esteem is,
who has it, how it is cause and more. Throughout the essay I continue to bring it back to how it is
something that teenagers go through all the time. If a teenager were were to read it they would be
able to connect with was the essay says and feel like the essay was towards people their age.

- However, not everybody is the same. Some teenagers have a bad

self-esteem while others slightly have a low one. For example, a teenager
could be good at socially interacting with other people but could be
constantly internally comparing themselves to others and thinking
negatively about themselves. Its all personal and individual with each
person.
In teenagers, this can be caused by various reasons. From family
situations, childhood situation, to simple stress. It is highly common
though for teenagers to have dips in self-esteem as they go through
different stages or challenges in life (Young Minds). Growing up comes
with changes and sometime its hard to adjust to them. Whether the
change is drastic or not, it can cause low points in life.
Some teenagers have a low self-esteem early on because of previous
childhood experiences (Latour). It can be caused by early on family
problems such as divorce or early childhood problems like bullying with
kids their age. Having a rough childhood at home or in school can easily
drag onto a teeangers life as they grow up. If the teen doesnt do much to
help themselves, their self-esteem can possible gradually get worse and
become a serious issue.

Learning outcome 2f requires for the student to: Cite Sources according to MLA style
guides.
Within all of my essays I cited that followed the MLA format. In my essays there are
work cited pages. The insite citations go accordingly to the MLA citation in the work cited page.
After the evidence or quote, I Cited the source by either putting the author's name or the name of
the article. The following quotes come from all four of my essays. It is clear to see that each
piece of evidence is cited correctly in MLA format.
- Teenagers can start to gain a low confidence in themselves throughout
the middle school and high school years in their lives (Chris, Youth
expert).
-It is highly common though for teenagers to have dips in self-esteem as
they go through different stages or challenges in life (Young Minds).
-People lost hope when they saw the skinny blue and purple baby
(Julia).
-Paying for college is not the first on a familys priority. In 1974, the
median American family earned just under 13,000 a year (Davidson,
Adam), which was just enough to to pay bill and college tuition. At that
time college only costed $2,000 a year for a private college and about
$510 a year for a public school (Davidson, Adamack).
- Thats 10 million more than twitter and 50 million more than instagram
