Material Safety Data Sheet

XYLAN 1052/F0874 GREY BLACK

Flammable. Irritating to skin. Risk of serious damage to eyes.

Harmful by inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed.
Symptoms of Exposure:
Inhalation
Irritating to respiratory system. Cough.
Skin contact
Redness. May be absorbed through the skin in harmful amounts.
Eye contact
Severe eye irritation. Redness. Excessive watering.
Ingestion
Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Unconsciousness.
Specific hazards
Inhalation of high vapour concentrations can cause CNS-depression and narcosis.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

General advice:
If you feel unwell, seek medical advice (show the label where possible). Wash contaminated clothing before re-use. Show
this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance.
Inhalation:
Move to fresh air in case of accidental inhalation of vapours or decomposition products. Lie down in the recovery position,
cover and keep warm. Apply artificial respiration only if patient is not breathing or under medical supervision.
Skin contact:
Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water removing all contaminated clothes and shoes. If skin irritation
persists, call a physician.
Eye contact:
Immediately flush with plenty of water. After initial flushing, remove any contact lenses and continue flushing for at least
15 minutes. Keep eye wide open while rinsing. If eye irritation persists, consult a specialist.
Ingestion:
Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting: contains petroleum distillates and/or
aromatic solvents. If a person vomits when lying on his back, place him in the recovery position. Obtain medical attention.
Notes to physician:
Persons who have inhaled the fumes produced in a fire may not show immediate symptoms. Inhalation of the
decomposition products from processing conditions or from smoking fluoropolymer contaminated tobacco may cause a
temporary flu-like illness known as "Polymer Fume Fever." Treatment should be symptomatic.

5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES

Revision Date: 09 January 2008

Material Safety Data Sheet

XYLAN 1052/F0874 GREY BLACK

Suitable extinguishing media

Use dry chemical, CO2, water spray or "alcohol" foam.
Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons
Do not use a solid water stream as it may scatter and spread fire.
Specific hazards
The vapour is invisible, heavier than air and spreads along the ground. Can form explosive mixture with air particularly in
empty uncleaned containers. Heating may cause pressure rise with risk of bursting and subsequent explosion.
Flammable. Flash back possible over considerable distance.
Special protective equipment for fire-fighters
Wear self contained breathing apparatus for fire fighting if necessary.
Specific methods
Cool containers / tanks with spray water. In the event of fire, cool containers / tanks with water spray.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Personal precautions
Wear personal protective equipment. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Spillage onto the outside of container will
make the container slippy. Sweep-up to prevent slipping hazard. Remove all sources of ignition. Pay attention to
flashback.
Environmental precautions
Should not be released into the environment. Do not allow material to contaminate ground water system. Do not flush into
surface water or sanitary sewer system. Avoid subsoil penetration. Local authorities should be advised if significant
spillages cannot be contained.
Methods for cleaning up
Soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder) and dispose of as hazardous
waste. Sweep up and shovel into suitable containers for disposal.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Handling
Avoid contact with skin and eyes. When using do not smoke. Use only in area provided with appropriate exhaust
ventilation. Change out of working clothes and wash hands before breaks and at the end of the working day.
Storage
Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition. Keep containers tightly closed in a cool, wellventilated place. Keep at temperatures between 5 and 30C.
Packaging material
Store in original container.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION

Occupational exposure controls

Engineering measures
As required by the COSHH regulations the user (employer) must "monitor and maintain the concentration of all hazardous
substances in the air below their occupational exposure limits." Ensure spray booth filters are changed, cleaned and
serviced regularly. Provide adequate ventilation. Equipment used to apply and cure this product must be adequately
exhausted. Where reasonably practicable this should be achieved by the use of local exhaust ventilation and good
general extraction.

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection
When workers are facing concentrations above the exposure limit they must use appropriate certified respirators. The use
of a suitable mask with particle filter P3 (BS EN 143) and a respirator with an organic vapour filter A2 (BS EN 143) is
recommended.
Hand protection
Solvent-resistant gloves. For prolonged use the gloves should meet the requirements of EN374 preferably with a Class 6
performance level which indicates a breakthrough time of >480 minutes e.g butyl rubber gloves - 0.7mm coating
thickness. For short-term contact the gloves should meet the requirements of EN374 preferably with at least Class 2
performance level which indicates a breakthrough time of >30 minutes e.g nitrile rubber - 0.4mm coating thickness.
Eye protection
Safety glasses. If extra protection is required wear a face-shield over the safety glasses or splash goggles. Face-shields
are only effective if worn in addition to safety glasses or splash goggles. Eye wash bottle with pure water.
Skin and body protection
Lightweight protective clothing. Safety showers should be readily available.
Hygiene measures
It is good practice in industrial hygiene to avoid contact with organic solvents by using appropriate protective measures
whenever possible.

10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY

Stability
Stable under recommended storage conditions.
Materials to avoid
Acids. Bases. Oxidising agents. Halogenated compounds.
Hazardous decomposition products
The fluoropolymer resins used in this coating begin to decompose, very slowly, at temperatures above 260C. Thermal
decomposition is more rapid at temperatures above 400C. Above 425C fluoropolymer resins give off small amounts of
tetrafluoroethylene / hexafluoropropylene / perisofluorobutylene / carbonyl fluoride / hydrogen fluoride. These are toxic
and if inhaled, in sufficient quantities, may be harmful. The actual decomposition products depend on temperature and
the amount of oxygen. Thermal decomposition can lead to release of irritating gases and vapours. Nitrogen oxides (NOx).
Combustion produces oxides of carbon (COx) including highly poisonous carbon monoxide.
Polymerisation
Hazardous polymerisation does not occur.
Conditions to avoid
Prolonged heating at temperatures above 40C. Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition.

result in adverse health effects. Symptoms of overexposure may be headache, dizziness, tiredness, nausea and vomiting.
Chronic toxicity
Repeated or prolonged contact with the preparation may cause removal of natural fat from the skin resulting in nonallergic contact dermatitis and absorption through the skin.

Contaminated packaging
Contaminated packaging is classified as hazardous waste according to the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005 and the
List of Wastes Regulations 2005. Empty containers should be transported/delivered using a registered waste carrier for
local recycling or waste disposal. Waste disposal number - 15 01 10* Packaging containing residues of our contaminated
