SCOPE
This SCECO-East Material Standard Specification (SMSS) specifies the minimum
technical requirements for design, engineering, manufacture, inspection, testing and
performance of XLPE Insulated, single core, copper or aluminum power cable, rated
34.5 kV, suitable for direct burial or installation in ducts to be used in the system of
Saudi Consolidated Electric Company in the Eastern Province (SCECO-East), Saudi
Arabia.

Conductor Shield
The conductor shield shall consist of an extruded black thermosetting
semiconducting material compatible with the conductor and the
insulation. A suitable semi-conducting tape may be applied between
the conductor and the specified extruded semi-conducting layer.
The average thickness and minimum thickness of the conductor shield
shall be as indicated in Data Schedule.
The minimum thickness of the conductor shield shall not be less than
80% of the average thickness.
4.3.3
Insulation
The insulation shall be cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE).
The average thickness and minimum thickness of the insulation shall be
as indicated in Data Schedule.
The minimum thickness of the insulation shall not be less than 90% of
the average thickness.
4.3.4
Insulation Shield
The insulation shield shall consist of an extruded black thermosetting
semi-conducting material compatible with the XLPE insulation.
The average thickness, maximum thickness and minimum thickness of
the insulation shield shall be as indicated in Data Schedule.
