Last week we concluded the Book of Genesis and ended with the prophecies that
were spoken over each one of the twelve sons of Jacob and the two sons of
Joseph. These prophecies gave us an understanding of this “Roadmap” of
YHVH’s Restoration Plan, and how He is going to use His people to reach the
nations. His Plan started in the Garden of Eden, as a result of the original sin, and
ends with the prophecy spoken over Benyamin, revealing the judgement of sin,
as prophesied in Zec 12-14 and recorded in the Book of Revelation.
This week we begin with the Book of Exodus or Shemot. The word Exodus
comes from the Ancient Greek: ἔξοδος, éxodos, meaning "going out." In Hebrew,
it is the word tvms Shəmōṯ, that means "Names, " and this Book gets its name
from the second word of the beginning of the text: "These are the names of the
sons of Israel."
Q – Why title the Book “names”?

Egypt, the Land of Opportunity

Exo 1:1 Now these are the names (Shemot) of the
children of Israel who came to Egypt; each man and
his household came with Jacob: 2 Reuben, Simeon,
Levi, and Judah; 3 Issachar, Zebulun, and
Benjamin; 4 Dan, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. 5 All
those who were descendants of Jacob were
seventy persons (for Joseph was in
Egypt already). 6 And Joseph died, all his brothers,
and all that generation.

www.hasophim.com 1
7 Butthe children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly,
multiplied and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with
them.
These names connect with the previous Parasha’s prophecies that are spoken
over each one of e “names” or characters and will be fulfilled within the place they
entered, namely Egypt. From last week’s study, we saw Messiah revealed as well
as the purpose of the Household of YHVH. It also includes warnings regarding
the dangers that exist in this place called Egypt.
Egypt is known as Mitzrayim that means sin and bondage. It is derived from the
word “m’tzarim,” that means “narrow straits, narrow, and tight.” When someone
mentions the word Egypt and Israel in the same sentence, you immediately make
the connection with slavery. This is exactly what Egypt represent and what Israel
experienced. Being slaves in Egypt, made the lives of YHVH’s people very
narrow and tight, where they were just permitted to follow those ways of Pharaoh,
to benefit Egypt.
Spiritual Insight: Egypt represents a place where you are limited in your
thinking and what your real-life purpose is all about. You are conditioned to
only follow the ways of this dictated “system” that enslaves you, and you are
not allowed to know or follow YHVH’s plan for your life. The lies that keep and
sustain this “system” is bondage and false freedom. What makes this false
freedom attractive is that you are allowed to follow your own will. Imagine a
slave doing what he or she wants. What a great lie. In this “system” of
bondage, it is taught that YHVH’s Commandments brings bondage and that
grace is the key that releases you from YHVH’s legalistic Commandments. You
are allowed to be “free” and live the life you want.
Q – Do you see how great the deception is?
The fact of the matter is that sin brings bondage and following YHVH’s
Commandments brings liberty, as James explained in his letter to the twelve
tribes named here:
James 1:22-25 But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving
yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is
like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes
himself, goes away and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25
But he who looks into the perfect Law (Torah) of liberty and continues in it,
and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed
in what he does.
The “Word” James is referring to is the TaNaK or OT. This was the only
Scripture they had available in their time, and the New Testament was not
compiled yet. TaNaK is an acronym for Torah, Nevi’im (Prophets) and Ketuvim
(Writings & Psalms). There is only one word used for law in Greek, this is the
word “nomos,” and you have to read the context of “nomos,” translated as
“law,” to see which law he was referring to. There are three laws mentioned in
the NT; Law of YHVH, that is the word Torah, laws of man, also referred to as
the traditions of the fathers, and lastly, the law of sin, that is the “yester harah”
or evil inclination, better known as fleshliness. This word “law” James is
referring to, if you read the context, is the Law of YHVH or His Torah, which
contains all the Commandments and the wisdom given to man, by the Father.

www.hasophim.com 2
When you follow these Commandments, and it’s wisdom, you will be set free.
Set free from what? You will be set free from the consequences of sin that
includes judgement. The Torah creates a safe environment wherein we can
make decisions, and the consequences of those decisions will be liberating. In
contrast to this, when you apply your free will and exercise your “liberty” as,
then the results of your actions, will bring bondage. For example; you can
exercise your liberty to abuse alcohol or take drugs. The consequences of this
liberty will result in you becoming addicted, and your life will be destroyed.
Where is the freedom in that?

Casting out the Nets

This sums up the place YHVH called His people into,
namely Egypt. Today we live in a world similar to Egypt,
without even noticing it. We are challenged by the same
dangers that exist in this “system,” and needs YHVH’s
wisdom that will be revealed in this Book to overcome
these dangers and deceptions. When you look at Egypt
with physical eyes, you see a land of opportunity, a place
that looks very nice to live in, lots of resources like the Nile, and plenty of
opportunities and jobs. Looking at Egypt with spiritual eyesight reveals something
different; it is a place of slavery where you serve a slave master, making bricks
that build and maintain this very system that entraps you.
The Book of Exodus is the story about leaving Egypt, and starts off with “names.”
In the Hebrew culture, your name means your character and your destiny. The
purpose of Egypt is to challenge you so that your character can change and your
destiny lies beyond Egypt, called the Promised Land. The opening verse can also
read as follows; “Now these are the characters with their destinies, the children
of the Righteous People of Elohim who came to a place of sin and bondage….”
Q – Why would YHVH send His people into a place of sin and allowed them to be
slaves?
Spiritual Insight: It seems that they have done something wrong, and being
punished sentenced to this place of slavery and hardship. Yes, it is true that
you bring bad consequences on yourself as James explain in James 1:14
saying; “But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires
and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin,
when it is full-grown, brings forth death.”
What we see here, is that YHVH uses His people as a net, where He cast them
into a place of slavery and darkness, to bring out the
nations that are bound, when He “pulls them out of
Egypt.” When Israel left, they brought with them a mixed
multitude, consisting of different nations, who joined
themselves with Israel. This is similar to the Plan of
YHVH, sending His Righteous Son into a dark, sinful
world so that He can bring many nations out of sin and
bondage.

Oppression, Multiplication and Growth
Exo 1:8-12 Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know
Joseph. 9 And he said to his people, “Look, the people of the children of
Israel are more and mightier than we; 10 come, let us deal shrewdly
with them, lest they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that
they also join our enemies and fight against us, and so go up out of the
land.” 11 Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with
their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh supply cities, Pithom and
Raamses. 12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied
and grew. And they were in dread of the children of Israel.
The story starts with Israel being oppressed by the Egyptians. The new king did
not know Joseph and the king were afraid of the Israelites. He planned to
suppress them so that they can be contained and controlled, but the more they
were oppressed, the more they multiplied and grew.
Personal Application: Those who go through troubled times and feel that the
world is pressing hard on you, do not be dismayed and have faith, YHVH is
busy forming you and changing your character. We saw this last week when
we looked at Reuben; YHVH will give you strength, dignity and power. Reuben
was the firstborn of Jacob, and this is the first phase you will go through as a
newborn believer in Messiah and this phase will repeat through your life so that
you can be equipped for vry new phase you enter in your life. You will receive
strength, “on” ]va, by being connected to the Father (a). You will receive
dignity, se-eth” tas, through knowing Messiah (ta), and the anointing of His
Spirit (s). Lastly, you receive power, “az” zi, receiving spiritual eyesight (i),
and learn how to use the Word or Sword (z) of YHVH. Oppression and
persecution within Egypt will be your training ground where you will be skilled
in these attributes.

Salvation can become Bondage

We live in the world where the majority of world leaders do not know Y’shua
(Joseph), and that causes them to make laws that oppress YHVH’s people.
Believe it or not, the enemy is afraid of you and will do everything in his power to
suppress and keep you under control through bondage.
Q – How are we as believers bound by the enemy today?
The enemy attacks us from the physical and spiritual sides. In the physical, he
binds us by the very system that keeps us locked in. We are so dependent upon
the world system like electricity, internet and food supplies, and cannot work or
live without these. We are bombarded by
advertisements that show you what you need, but we
lost the ability to discern between needs and wants.
We need to try and become more self-sufficient and not
drawn in by consumerism where people are addicted to
consuming and getting something new or better. This is
covetousness and is sin! If you are entrapped by this
system, then you are a slave making bricks.

www.hasophim.com 4
In the spiritual, we become slaves when your “salvation” has turned
to slavery. How can that be? It happens when you become
stagnant, only focussing on your “salvation,” but do not grow in the
Word or in character. This is that same picture where Joseph and
his family stayed in Egypt (bondage) after being “saved.” It took
between 200 and 400 years for this to happen and if you are
passive after your conversion, you will definitely become a slave as
well. The place of salvation and blessing can become a place of
bondage and slavery.
Last week we looked at Asher, that means happy, where people
followed foolish leaders like King Saul, who converted their
followers into “king Agag’s,” feeding them “fat bread.” They teach
doctrines that “tickles the ears”, making them “happy” instead of
“holy”. This leaves them in a fleshly bound spiritual state, not eating “unleavened
bread,” that is the Word of YHVH that takes leaven or sin out of your life. This
causes them to become spiritually fat and lazy, and their faith is all about
sustaining their lives, appointing themselves as kings of their own lives instead of
Messiah Y’shua.
Salvation is good as a starting point, but it is not a place
to set up camp. Anything that starts out as good and life-
giving can become stagnant and bad, like water which
carries bacteria and cause diseases, because it is not
flowing. “Agag believers” stopped growing and are not
interested in learning the Word that makes them mature
in their faith, becoming an active part in the Household of
YHVH. They just become “seat warmers” that feed the
very system that keeps them in bondage. This is another
example of an Egypt that exists in the Kingdom today.
We will learn later on that the Passover is celebrated in Egypt, but they had to
leave Egypt and could not set up “camp” where they received their “salvation.”
YHVH reached out to us while we were still in the world, full of sin and bondage.
This Book is all about leaving Egypt and following YHVH through the Wilderness.

YHVH Called Moses

Gen 3:1-2 Now Moses was tending the flock of
Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And
he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to
Horeb, the mountain of Elohim. 2 And the Angel of
YHVH appeared to him in a flame of fire from the
midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush
was burning with fire, but the bush was not
consumed.
After Moses defended one of his brethren and accidentally killed an Egyptian, he
fled and became a shepherd for 40 years. One day he was shepherding the flocks
of his father in law near the mountain Horeb, where he encountered an Angel of
YHVH.

www.hasophim.com 5
Angel is the word ;alm “malak” that means angel, messenger and king. I believe
that this Angel of YHVH wan non-other that Messiah, the Messenger and Mediator
Who will be King. Herob is known as the mountain of YHVH as well as Sinai.
Horeb brx means dry, desolate and hot. Sinai ynyc comes from the word
“sina” that means thorny.
If you pronounce Horeb or “choreb” slightly different it
becomes “cherev” that means sword. This is the mountain where
Moses will receive the Ten Commandments, the Word or “Sword” of
YHVH that will cut away everything that is Egyptian, that is not from YHVH.
On this mountain, Horeb or Sinai, Moses saw a “sinah” or
thorn bush that was burning but not consumed. Later on, all
the people of Israel will have a similar “burning bush”
experience when YHVH came down on Mount Sinai or
“Mount Thorn,” where He will entrust them with His “sword,”
that is in the form of the Ten Commandments. See how
everything is linked together and how the one event is a
prophetic picture of the one to come.
Bush is the word hnc “senah” and was burning in the fire but was not consumed.
This word is used three times in this passage revealing three “burning bush”
encounters that will happen. The first is the one here with Moses; the second is
where the fire came down on Mt Sinai (thorny), and the last will be where the fire
or glory will come on the One Who is the Word of YHVH, with the Sword preceding
from His Mouth, Who is Messiah.
Isa 49:2 Listen to Me, O islands, And pay attention, you peoples from
afar. YHVH called Me from the womb; From the body of My mother, He
named Me. 2 He has made My mouth like a sharp sword, In the shadow of
His hand He has concealed Me; And He has also made Me a select arrow,
He has hidden Me in His quiver. 3 He said to Me, "You are My Servant,
Israel, In Whom I will show My glory."…
Matt 17:1-3 Now after six days Y’shua took Peter, James, and John, his
brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; 2 and He was
transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes
became as white as the light. 3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to
them, talking with Him.
Rev 19:15-16 And from His mouth proceeds a sharp sword with which to
strike down the nations… 16And He has a name written on His robe and on
His thigh: King of kings and Lord of lords.…
Q - Why as the bush not burned up?
Spiritual Insight: There must be something that fuels the fire
if the bush is not consumed. We have learned that the letter
Shin s represents fire and the Spirit of YHVH. This is what
Moses encountered as fire, the Shin or Spirit of YHVH. We see
this Shin in a similar picture, looking at the creation scene
where the Spirit of YHVH moved over the waters before He
started with His Creation.

www.hasophim.com 6
Similarly, we see the Spirit of YHVH hovering over the “thorn bush,” before the
“creation” of Moses, the leader of Israel, through His creative power and
anointing of His Spirit (fire). What Moses saw was a picture of himself where
he was the bush, and the task YHVH called him to do, was represented by the
burning fire. YHVH provide the means or “fuel” through His s “Shin” or Spirit,
and Moses was not consumed. The key for him was to trust in YHVH’s
anointing and His abilities and not his own so that he will not be “burned out”
so to speak.
Personal Application: Observing a bush on fire is not
something special, we all have seen that before, but seeing a
bush on fire that is not burning up is spectacular and
supernatural. Seeing someone “on fire” for a cause is
something spectacular if the cause does not destroy the
individual. This can only be true for someone who relies on
YHVH’s Spirit and His Anointing, not doing it in the flesh out of
their own efforts.
This is a beautiful picture of how YHVH’s Anointing works that
He equips His people with. He reveals His plan to us, it not only
gives us direction but the ability and strength to fulfil the task.
Trust Him; He will provide all the “fuel” to keep the fire burning in
your life. All you have to do is allow it to burn so that His Light
can shine through your life in this dark world.

The Divine Name Revealed

Exo 3:11 But Moses said to Elohim,
“Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and
that I should bring the children of Israel out of
Egypt?”

When YHVH called Moses at the burning bush,

Moses felt overwhelmed and asked “who am I” as
if he thinks that everything will have to be done in
his own strength and ability.
Personal Application: When YHVH calls you to do something, it might seem
impossible, and you might feel overwhelmed and inadequate. Joshua responded
the same way when YHVH called him, but YHVH told him that he is a mighty
man of God. We tend to only see ourselves from our perspective and point of
view as if you are the person who knows yourself the best.
But what if you believe a lie about yourself? YHVH is the One who created you
and knows you the best, and He created you for a specific purpose. You have to
listen what He has to say about you. You need a revelation from Him of who you
are really are so that you can step up and become the man or woman He
planned you to become.
Exo 3:13 Then Moses said to Elohim, “Indeed, when I come to the children
of Israel and say to them, ‘The Elohim of your fathers has sent me to you,’
and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?”
Last week we looked at Zeph 3:9 where the people will call on the Name of YHVH
and when His language will be restored at the end.
www.hasophim.com 7
Here we see the first place where YHVH’s Name is revealed to a multitude of
people so that they can call on His Name and be “saved.” (Rom 10:13)
Joel 2:31-32 The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood
Before the great and awesome day of YHVH comes. 32"And it will come
about that whoever calls on the name of YHVH will be delivered; For on
Mount Zion and in Jerusalem There will be those who escape, as YHVH has
said, even among the survivors whom YHVH calls.
Exo 3:14-15 And Elohim said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said,
“Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
Q - What is the meaning of a name in Hebraic context?
A name is not a sound you make to call someone for dinner. A name represents
your character and your destiny that is spoken over you every time someone calls
you by your name. YHVH’s Name is His Character and says a lot about Who He
is and what He is about. We find the Character of YHVH recorded in His Word
and the Sages believe that the longest Name (Character) of YHVH is His Torah
(first five Books of the Scripture).
When Moses asked Him; “… what is Your Name?”, He answered, saying;
“asher aye asher,” that is translated as “I am Who I am.” This means that
He is the ever-existing One that cannot be compared with anybody else, the
One who exists in eternity Who cannot be measured or fully comprehended.
His Name consists of 4 letters also called the Tetragrammaton. These 4
letters are known as weak consonants and are sometimes used as vowels
and is a sign of YHVH’s humility and gentleness. The Name YHVH hvhy is
His Name that represents His grace, that is the Father’s heart. Number 4 means,
the “Work of the Messiah,” and is contained within this Name where He
expressed His Grace through His Son and the Work of Messiah. Each of the
letters has a meaning that gives us more insight into the Character of YHVH:
• Yod y – Hand of YHVH also known as His Spirit.
• Hey h – Hey is the sound of breath or Ruach, that means Spirit. Hey also
means light and is the revelation through His Ruach or Spirit.
• Vav v – This means man, and is right in the middle of the two “Hey’s”. This
means that man is “in YHVH,” so to speak, and we are in the heart of the
Father Who gave us two “revelations (Hey’s); one on the left, revealing
Himself to man on a physical level and that is through His Natural
Creation. Another Hey on the right, revealing Himself to us through a
spiritual revelation, which is through His Word by His Spirit.
The Tetragrammaton consists of 4 letters and each letter represents a number;
“Yod” = 10, “Hey” = 5 and “Vav” = 6. When you add up these numbers, it results
in 26. There is another letter that adds up to the number 26 and that is the Aleph
a, the first letter of the Hebrew Aleph-Bet.

www.hasophim.com 8
This letter is made up combining two “Yod’s” y to a “Vav” v in the middle. The
“vav,” similar as to YHVH’s Name, is in the centre or heart of YHVH.

There are two y “Yod’s” in the Aleph, one from above and one from below. The
one from above represents YHVH’s Spirit or invisible hand through which He
created. The “yod” from below represents His Spirit He gave to man as a Helper.
John 14:15-17 “If you love Me, keep My There is only one set of
Commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He Commandments which
will give you another Helper, that He may abide with
were given to Moses by
you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world
the Hand of YHVH
cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows
(Messiah). Y’shua did not
Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and
will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will create new
come to you. Commandments that are
different and superseded
When we look at the a “aleph” we find two y “yod’s,” one the original
Commandments. Y’shua is
from above and one from below, supporting the v “vav.” This
the Messiah Who gave the
reveals to us the “hand” of YHVH and the power of His Spirit Commandments to Moses
through Who He created everything, split the red sea and and here in John He refers
resurrected Y’shua from the dead. He also promised to give to His Commandments He
life to humanity through His Spirit. gave Moses.
Eze 37:4 Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these
bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the Word of YHVH! 5 Thus says
Adonai YHVH to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath (Ruach) to enter
into you, and you shall live.
Breath is the word xvr “Ruach” means breath and comes from the root word
“ruach” that means smell, to touch and accept. This word is
first found in Gen 8:21 where Noah presented a burnt offering
unto YHVH. When YHVH smelled the sweet smell of the
burnt offerings and decided not to curse the ground or
destroy man and every living thing as He did with the flood.
Spiritual Insight: We learned previously that the ‘nose’ has
to do with anger and YHVH smelling the sweet smell of an
offering, makes Him rest from His anger. How do we perform
burnt offerings today? A Burnt Offering is called an elevation offering where the
whole animal is consumed by fire. This offering is associated with prayer,
praising YHVH without a shopping list. When last have you offered up a burnt
offering?
YHVH’s Spirit is associated with His grace. When you receive His Spirit, it is a
sign that you are accepted by Him, as seen from the meaning of the root word
“ruach.” This concept of acceptance through His Spirit is not Paul’s idea.
Rom 8:14-16 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15
For you did not receive a spirit of slavery that returns you to fear, but
you received the Spirit of sonship, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The
Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.…

www.hasophim.com 9
The number 26 is very significant and has the following meaning and attributes:
• It is the number that represents the Name of the Father, YHVH = 26
• 26 a unique number and there is no other number like it. It is
the only integer that is one greater than a square (52 + 1)
and one less than a cube (33 − 1). No one can be compared
with YHVH.
• 26 is the number that is associated with unity and strength
where the Aleph = 1 and Aleph = 26 (yod + vav + yod).
• It is the number of generations from creation that led up to the
giving of the Commandments and the Torah through Moses. Creation –
YHVH (26) – Commandments. This connects YHVH’s Commandments
and the Torah to the creation of man, but this time, represents man’s
spiritual creation.
• The Greek Strongs number G26 is "Agape", which means "Love" that
show that YHVH is love.
• The expression "For His mercy endures forever" is found once in each of
the 26 verses of Psalm 136. This show that the Name YHVH, represents
YHVH’s grace and mercy.
• This Name is associated with a cube because a cube has 26
attributes; 12 edges, 8 corner and 6 surfaces. A salt crystal is a cube,
and those who call on His Name should be the salt of the earth. The
Holy of Holies is a cube that house the Presence of YHVH. The New
Jerusalem is a cube as well that represents the dwelling place of YHVH.
Exo 3:15 Moreover Elohim said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the
children of Israel: ‘YHVH Elohim of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the
God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My Name
forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’
YHVH reveals Himself to Moses saying “I am the God of your father—the God of
Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob,” but Moses still did not know
His Name. Moses wanted to know YHVH’s Name for the benefit of the people, to
reveal the Authority that Who sent him. Moses also asked YHVH’s Name
because he did not know YHVH personally then, but only identified Him as the
God of his fathers.
Q – Do you really know YHVH or are you following the God of your “fathers”?
Moses had to experience YHVH personally before he could say YHVH is his God.

Memorial is the word rkz “zeker” that means to remember, to

be a sign and to burn incense. This word is used in Exo 17:14
in the story where Aaron and Hur supported (amunah – faith)
the arms of Moses so that they could overcome the enemy
called Amalek. YHVH then told Moses to record this victory in a
Book to be a memorial and “rehearse” it.

Lay upon and rehearse is the word ,vs “sum”, that means to
put upon and sign. This word is found in various places in Scripture; it is found in
the story of Cain where he received a sign, in the story of Abraham where he
“put” water on the shoulder of Hagar before sending her into the wilderness.

www.hasophim.com 10
It was also used in the story of Abraham and Isaac where the wood of the
sacrifice was “put upon” Isaac. This word is also used where Abraham’s seed will
be a “sign” of the Covenant.
Think of YHVH’s Name in the context of these meanings and examples and
meditate on it. This will give you insight into the value of knowing and calling upon
the Name of YHVH. Some believe not to use the Name “YHVH” and replace it
with “HaShem” that means “the Name,” or Adonai, that means Lord, Master and
Owner. In the Bible, this Name is hidden and substituted with “Lord,” that is a title
that is similar to Adonai, that means Master.
The Name of YHVH is to be a memorial or a “sign” that is “put upon” something or
someone, or used in a situation to identify the Authority you represent. We as
believers in Messiah are familiar to use the phrase “in the Name of Y’shua /
Jesus” when we pray or speak against the enemy, the same applies for the Name
of YHVH. People may differ from this view and I respect that, but this is what we
saw here in Scripture and learn from this Portion.

The Name Y’shua or ivs hy “Yah + shua” means “Yah” - “saves” or

YHVH is my salvation,” and this concept is found in Isa 43:11; “I am
YHVH and besides Me there is no saviour.” The Name of the Messiah
points to the Father, Who revealed His Name to Moses as “YHVH” so that
the people could identify the God that will save them. Those who call on
the Name of YHVH, or the Name of Yah (shua) will be saved.
YHVH will put His Name as a “sign” on those who call upon this Name. Not only
that, there is power in the Name. The victory over Amalek is written as a
memorial that needs to be remembered, and that victory was won in the Name of
YHVH. We read in Exo 17:16, that YHVH swore that He Himself will war against
Amalek from generation to generation, confirming the victory in His Name.
Amalek represents your flesh, and you do not have the ability in yourself to
overcome it, but only through the power of His Name and His Spirit in you.
Q – How was YHVH planning to do war against Amalek?
YHVH send His Son, YHVH is Salvation (Y’shua), the Messiah to take the
consequences of our fleshiness upon Himself, becoming a “nachash” (Serpent)
on a pole, and everyone who looks to Him and believe in Him that He can do it,
will be “saved.” ((Num 21:9) How we overcome the flesh is through receiving the
Spirit of YHVH that gives us a new nature and if you walk in the new nature you
cannot sin. If you sin, it means that you reverted back to your old nature that is
fleshly and prone to sin. You then need to repent and rely on the “Shin” or Spirit
of YHVH, represented by the fire on the burning bush, to give you the ability and
the strength to overcome this enemy called Amalek in your life. Then YHVH’s
Spirit will war against Amalek in your life so that you sin no more, walking in
holiness.
The fact that the victory over Amalek needed to be “written down as a
memorial” reveals to us that everything that is “written” in the Word of
YHVH is a memorial and a sign that needs to be “put upon” every
believer, just like His Name.
This implies that “putting on His Name” is similar to “putting on” His Word
like a Yoke you carry in this life. Y’shua said in Matt 11:30 that His Yoke is
easy and His burden (memorial / Name) is light.

Y’shua’s yoke is similar to the yoke Moses received. The yoke man created is the
yoke of Moses plus man-made traditions and “fences” or additional
commandments that became a massive burden the people could no longer bear.
Y’shua came to remove the added load which man laid upon the people, and only
leave the yoke He gave Moses.
The Scripture teaches that you are cursed if you add or remove from the Word of
YHVH only with all the traditions removed that caused it to become heavy and
unbearable, and that applies to the whole of Scripture. This principle is recorded
in both the TaNaK (OT) and the Berit Chadasha (NT).
Deut 4:2 "You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you,
nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of YHVH
your Elohim which I command you.
Deut 12:32 Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do; you
shall not add to nor take away from it.
Prov 30:6 Do not add to His words Or He will reprove you, and you will
be proved a liar.
Rev 22:18-19 I testify to everyone who hears the words of prophecy in
this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues
described in this book. 19 And if anyone takes away from the words of this
book of prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the
holy city, which are described in this book.
“Putting on” His Name is similar to “putting on” or obeying His Word
or Commandments. This “memorial” will then be seen on your life
even if you do not say one word and will be seen as a visible sign to
the dark world, where you become the “burning bush” anointed with
the “fire” of YHVH’s Spirit.
The context of Matt 11:30 is where Y’shua said that no one knows the Father
except the Son and no one knows the Son except the Father and that the Son
can reveal the Father to man. To get a revelation of the Father, you have to have
a revelation of the Son, Y’shua, Who is the Mediator between the Father and
man, Who is the Word of YHVH. This is the testimony of the Name of YHVH (His
Character) that is recorded in the Book (Word) that needs to be remembered and
taught to the next generation.
As explained in the previous Torah Portion, people know Jesus or Y’shua as their
Saviour, but they do not know Him as the Word and the One Who reveals the
Father. If you want to see the Father, you have to “see” Y’shua as the Word and
when you study and live by the Word. This is the only way you will have a clear
picture of the Characters of the Father and Y’shua. His Spirit of Truth will reveal
these things to you as you become more acquainted with His Word.
Warning: There is a method of getting closer to God through the use of
visualisation techniques, similar to techniques used in Eastern Religious,
New Age and the Occult. Surely it can’t be wrong; it is a function of the
mind to “see” and “think in pictures?” The problem with this is that
people create their own “image” of Jesus or of the Father and do not
base it on the Characters of Y’shua and YHVH found in Scripture,
therefore you “create an image” of a “God” that is not the actual
God of the Scripture, and can fall into the trap of worshipping the

image of another god. Not only that, if you do this, then you are breaking the
principles of the Second Commandment; you shall make no graven image of any
other god and bow down before them.
You might say that it is an image in your mind and not a physical graven image.
That is true, but every graven image was once an image in the mind of someone
as they planned to make the image. Having the image that is not YHVH is the
problem and creating an image of YHVH what you think He is like is not Him that
you see, it is your own imagination. But you might say, the Holy Spirit revealed
this image of YHVH to me. His Spirit is the Spirit of Truth and will reveal the
Character of YHVH, not His image to us because we need to become like Him
and not look like Him. The purpose of the revelation His Spirit gives us is to
change us, and His Word is there to reveal to us what He is like. Y’shua said in
John 14:9, if you see Me, you have seen the Father. Y’shua is the Word, and we
have to look in the Word to see both Y’shua and the Father.

Messiah Revealed
Messiah’s First Coming: Moses grew up and became a
Prince of Egypt for 40 years. Then Moses saw an Egyptian
beating a Hebrew, and he intervened and killed the
Egyptian. He later saw two Hebrews fight and tried to stop
them. They accused him of being a murderer, and he fled
Egypt and went to Median and spent 40 years in the
Wilderness. This one act of redemption was rejected by
his people and is a prophetic picture of the First Coming of Messiah were His own
people rejected Him. His First Coming is to free us from sin.
Messiah’s Second Coming YHVH called Moses to redeem Israel from Egyptian
slavery and Moses went back where YHVH did a mighty
deliverance through him. This is a picture of the Second
Coming of Messiah where His people will receive and believe
in Him. This confirms to us that the Story of the Exodus is a
prophetic picture for Messiah’s Second Coming, leading His
people out of a similar system called Babylon as revealed in
the Book of Revelation. Babylon means “mixing and
confusion” and is the System that enslaves the world as well
as YHVH’s people today. We will see from this Book of
Exodus (Shemot) how YHVH will lead His people out from this bondage so that
we will not fall into the trappings of all the lies and manmade traditions inspired by
the enemy. His Second Coming is to free us from lies and confusion.
