14.5 Analysis of Raft :-
The raft is analysed using the formulae given in Vol. I & II of "Plain and Reinforced Concrete"(8th Edn.) by Dr. jaikrishna & Jain.
Values of radial bending moment Mr and circumferential B.M. M at different sections have been worked out and tabulated bellow.
While considering the effect of Dead Load with Wind or Seismic Loads, the value of permissible stresses can be increased by 4/3.
Instead, the same effect can be achieved by multipluing the resultant forces by 3/4 & keeping the perm. stresses unchanged.
Design value of B.M. Mr & M are chosen as greater of two, viz.
1. value due to DL only.
2. Value equal to (Combined efect of DL + WL/EL) x 3/4
In the Table, the +ve values of the B.M. indicate tension on bottom face of the raft slab.

14.5.1 Application of Formulae for raft Foundation :-

Loads received the raft foundation are :
W - direct downward load acting along the axis of the structure and
M - Moment due to WL or EL tending to rotate the raft along horizontal axis passing through C.G. of the raft.
These forces are transmitted to the soil below, causing max.and minimum pressures on soil, which should be within the safe limits.
Complete analysis of the structure is an appropriate summation of the four typical cases as under,
