P, 001/001 HAMILTON COUNTY TOWNSHIP ASSOCIATION FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 10, 2017 Hamilton County Township Association Strongly Opposes Cranley/City Council Decision Hamilton County, OH - The Hamilton County Township Association announced their vehement opposition to the decision by both Mayor Cranley and Cincinnati City Council to declare Cincinnati a sanctuary city. While the townships are not within the political boundaries of the city, they are significantly impacted by city decisions that affect the entire region. Tom Weidman, President of the Hamilton County Township Association said “The adoption of sanctuary city status is nothing more than political grandstanding and these political decisions have consequences. Their actions reduce our ability to secure the important Federal funding that is desperately needed for infrastructure improvements like the Brent Spence Bridge and the Western Hills Viaduct. By facilitating illegal immigrants in our community, they also compromise the safety of the citizens in not just Cincinnati but all of our communities.” We strongly urge the Mayor and members of City Council to honor the oath they took when they were sworn in to their office and uphold all Federal Laws including immigration, and not enforce only the laws that they feel are most politically expedient.
