NEMO DAT QUOD NON HABET

The Youth of a Nation are the trustees of posterity

-Benjamin Disraeli

Terrorism, is highly regarded as a form of corruption. For by definition,

corruption is the misuse of the power for personal or private gain. It is the
main cause of havoc around the globe. Such fosters impairment on moral
principles, human integrity or inducement of other unlawful means.
Undeniably, terrorism over qualifies these standards, for it violates the
countrys ethical and social norms, hence, a form of corruption. It is the
swearword, perhaps, which weakens the very roots of a nation.
The very prominent terrorist group at this age is the so-called ISIS. They
regard themselves as part of Islam, although majority of Islam would not
accept their claim. They are considered as a group of Islam militants,
declaring itself a state and a governing territory for several years and
counting. It started and branched out from the Al Qeada group of Bin Laden,
but more evident that ISIS is more brutal in their ways and actions. This is a
very sad reality for they somehow have tainted the very identity of Islam.
Several repercussions are felt by ISLAM, making them terrorists as whole.
How can we possibly resolve this issue on terrorism?
Although for some, it is a clich, I would still hold on to what Jose Rizal
once said, Ang Kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan. The youth, still, is the
greatest strength and wealth of any nation. As the epigram above would tell
it, the future of a nation depends on the hands of its posterity, hence, it is by
the youths courage and determination that a nation could prosper and
progress. They, indeed, can play a great part in the eradication of terrorism
as they constitute more than half of the human population, therefore, their
power is immense only if they comprehend it.
However, unless tapped in the proper way, the very potential energy of
the youth can tip over the side and become more destructive and
treacherous for the society. Undeniably, the youth is massively affected by
corruption. They are dispirited because of the immorality and inequality felt
in the society, non-availability of opportunities, devaluing of family values
and most of all, inadequate education. The result of this makes them become
victim of corruption and eventually become the corrupt themselves. In order
to eradicate all these malpractices and malevolent deeds from the society,
the youth should raise voice against corruption. An epitome for this advocacy
is Malala Yousafzai, the youngest recipient of the Nobel Prize Award in the
year 2014. According to her, PROPER EDUCATION is still the best and doable
option to combat corruption-- terrorism, particularly.
It is the duty of the youth to be a catalyst for change. In near time, they
will become the future leaders of the nation. Regardless of how young they
are, the youth should act ways in attaining unity in combating corruptions
prevalent in the society. Youth in this modern age becomes more powerful
because of the technological advancement and the aid of social media. The
issues in the society has become more visible because they were exposed to
them through social media. Hence, the youth could use social media to
proclaim their advocacy for peace and eventually in combating corruptions.
In the Filipino context, by opening to the society through involvement in
social activities such as relief operations, house building projects in Gawad
Kalinga, the youth raises their awareness that they are indeed a great part in
the eradication of corruption. Even just by simple tweets or posts on
Facebook voicing their ideas and proper reaction about terrorism, this is a
great endeavor to encourage everyone to act on their own proper ways. This
would be a simple action, but the effect is huge. For at the end of the day,
proper education for youth and involvement on social issues would be
useless if it does not start on accepting everyone and even self-acceptance.
So to say, proper education starts from the self before going to the society.
For as St. Augustine said, NEMO DAT QUOD NON HABET, You cannot give,
what you do not have!
