E: Good morning everyone! Good morning Ms. Moseros and classmates! We

are group 5! Our topic is about infrastructure and transportation and our
policy is about the underground power cables

B: Do anyone of you have ideas what is Underground power cable policy?

C: I will explain further what underground power cables are. An underground

cable is a cable that is buried below the ground. They distribute electrical
power or telecommunications. Such cables are an alternative to overhead
cables, which are several metres above the ground. Overhead cables are
often replaced with underground cables. This is mainly
for aesthetic purposes, because underground cables cannot be seen. They
are also less dangerous to people because they are out of the way. They cost
more to install, but last longer

PJ: Underground Utility Cables are the replacement of overhead cables

providing electrical power or telecommunications, with underground cables
and they were originated from Northern Germany as early as 1870.

In Davao City, this policy is implemented by President Rodrigo Duterte when

he was still the mayor of Davao and also in the University of the Philippines
in Diliman

A: Did you know that there are different types of underground cables? The
direct buried located on the picture at the left, Trough, at the middle and
tunnel at the right. And also, did you know? One of the main reasons why we
have heavy traffic is because of hanging cables and slanted posts.

That overhead posts are exposed making them vulnerable to illegal usage.

Some car accidents are caused by civilians not walking in the sidewalk
because the utility posts are taking up the space.

B: The reason why we chose to revise this because we like the idea of this
policy and we would want to further examine on how we could make it better
so that the citizens would agree and cooperate with this policy.

In this change, we would like to implement in the U.P.C.P (underground

power cable policy) that to make it not only in on city but in the whole
country, though it may take a while, but there will be big changes.
We would also like to point out that the amount of money that would be in
use would be quite big yet we can lower the price in their electricity bills so
that the taxes would go directly to the policy.

PJ: Now we go to the advantages and disadvantages of the Underground

power cable

The benefits of U.P.C.P

Lesser possibility of damaged cables caused by from severe weather

It has decreased the release of electromagnetic fields (EMF) to the

environment in that area. Though relying on the measure of the
underground cables, higher EMF may be experienced. Underground
cables pose no hazard to low flying aircraft or to wildlife, much less
subject to conductor theft, illegal connections, sabotage, and damage
from armed conflict.

Burying utility lines makes room for more large trees on

sidewalks, which convey environmental benefits and increase property
values Undergrounding is more expensive, since the cost of burying
cables at transmission voltages is several times greater than overhead
power lines

Difficult in identifying and repairing broken cables

Damage to cables or electrocution may occur to people digging the

ground and if they are unaware of the cables existence

C: This policy will help the society and the future generations have a better ,
safer and easier life.

- It would also help the society and the future generations have a better and
safer life because there will be enough space for pedestrians to walk on the
sidewalks.

- Even though this might take for a while, by the cooperation of the citizens
we would have this policy applied early.
